Hunter mentor program offered

COVID-19 has caused some people to renew their love of the outdoors, and the Ruffed Grouse Society is an organization making it easier for folks to enjoy the outdoors by offering a new hunter mentor program. The local Allegheny Chapter of the Ruffed Grouse Society is offering the program to people interested in conservation and hunting of upland birds. The program will be offered on Sunday, Sept. 20, in Johnsonburg, and Saturday, Oct. 17, near Ridgway. A final location has yet to be determined. Sign up with Rich Elliott at crawld11@gmail.com or with Christine Haibach at christine–haibach@hotmail.com. “This is the only training offered in NC Pennsylvania where an experienced, successful mentor helps you on a one-on-one basis from starting at the patterning board checking for gun fit, to learning about habitat, to learning about bird dogs, to finally going on a mentored hunt for upland birds,” says Rich Elliott, program co-leader from the Allegheny Chapter of the RGS. Those interested in donating funds, clay pigeons or shells to support new hunters to the upland bird life can email Christine Haibach at christine–haibach@hotmail.com.
