Church meeting

There will be a spring meeting held at the Swedish Union Church on Swede Road in Tidioute at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 20. Anyone welcome to attend.

Accepted to film school

Jimmy Elinski, son of Jim and Kathy Elinski, of Wilcox, has been accepted to Chapman University in Orange, Calif. It is rated the sixth top film school in the country and is recognized as one of the top 10 film schools in the world. He is currently finishing his sophomore year at Point Park University in Pittsburgh. Jimmy will transfer to Chapman to begin classes August 27.

To be selected for acceptance into the Film Production program, Elinski had to submit an application, including 13 essays on a variety of topics. He also had to submit two letters of recommendation, transcripts and an original film with the prompt of “show a character making a decision”. He was also interviewed via Skype.

Elinski’s goal is to become a movie director.

YMCA No School Day trip

The Warren County YMCA Family and Youth Department will be celebrating their last No School Day field trip from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. April 30 for Champan Park Summer Launch Camping Day.

From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., kids will hike, have scavenger hunts, participate in nature art and play games as the first offical campers of the summer.

The trip is for children ages 6 to 12. Drop off at the Y at 8 a.m. and pick up at 4:30 p.m. Pack a lunch for your child. Children are asked to wear appropriate clothing and shoes for hiking. Also, remember bug spray and sun screen.

The cost is $25 (no refunds or cancellation re-embursement). If it rains (or snows), children will stay at the Y.

Sheffield Hospitality Center

Week of April 30-May 4:

The Center is open Monday, Thursday and Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Wanted: Card players to start having a game during the evening; now that it’s getting darker later in May. Give me your input what night is best, should we meet weekly or every two weeks? All ages are welcome. Give me your input call me or stop in.

Today we are living longer, healthier lives due in part to better fitness and nutrition programs. You are never too old (or to young) to take part in activities. Chair exercise is at 9:45 a.m. on Thursday, or, for a more intense workout, exercise Monday and Thursday at 3 p.m. Crafts are on Friday at 1 p.m. Bingo is after lunch on Thursday.

Lunch this week is Monday with roast beef with whipped potatoes, Thursday pork loin with sauerkraut and mashed potatoes, Friday BBQ pork ribette and baked potato. Reservations are required.
