Composting workshop

The Warren County Conservation District will host a composting workshop from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, May 17.

“Learn about the amazing world of food scraps and yard waste,” a WCCD release said. “And not just any food scraps and yard waste, but your food scraps and yard waste, and what it can do for you.”

“Learn about how to turn this potential waste into a useful product for your yard and/or garden,” the release said. “Learn about the basics of composting and how to build your own compost bin.”

There is no cost to attend the workshop but registration, by calling 726-1441 ext. 1 or by email at smoore@wcconservation.net, is appreciated.

Church fundraiser

Irvine Presbyterian Church will be holding a Basket Bonanza in their Fellowship Building on Sunday, April 29 from 4 to 6 p.m. Bring a friend and join us for fellowship, fun, and food.

We have 28 unique baskets available ranging in value from $25 to $150. There will be a door prizedrawing of a $100 gift card and you must be present to win. BSA Troop 22 will be selling food and drinks, so come hungry. Money raised will be used to supporrt church missions. For more information, call Sandy at 563-3489.

Lockdown drills

There will be active intruder/lockdown drills at the following locations in Warren County School District next week:

¯ Warren Area High School — 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 24; and

¯ Warren County Career Center — 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 27.

Class to lunch

The Warren High School class of 1960 will have lunch at Fuji’s in Lakewood on April 25 at 12:30 p.m. Need a ride call Jim at (814) 484-5095. All class members, mates, and friends invited.

Coffee with Codes

City of Warren Codes Department is hosting Coffee with Codes on April 24 at McDonald’s, starting at 9 am. Stop by for coffee and a chat with City Code officials. They will be available to answer questions, hear suggestions, and hand out information related to building permits and property maintenance code enforcement.

Bridge results

Tuesday afternoon at the Allegheny Community Center, Connie Michell came in first with Donna Hickey in second. At the Woman’s Club Thursday afternoon, Marilyn Mourer and Connie Lucia were first and second. Rita Mancuso was first Thursday evening at the library with Marilyn Mourer and Donna Hickey tied for second.

Historical open house

Elk Township Historical Society (the former Scandia School) will hold its first Open House of the season on Saturday, May 12, from 1 to 4 p.m. Tour guides will be on hand to answer questions.

Pine Grove clean-up day

A spring clean-up day for Pine Grove Township residents will be held on Saturday, May 19, from 8 a.m. to noon at the township garage. No oil, paint or liquid hazardous waste, propane tanks, yard waste, household garbage, tires, batteries or recyclable items will be accepted. Driver’s licenses will be checked to verify Township residency. The cost will be $10 for cars and vans; $20 for pick-up trucks and trailers.
