Erie Arts & Culture grant
As a partner with Pennsylvania Council on the Arts (PCA), Erie Arts & Culture administers annual grants available through the Pennsylvania Partner in the Arts (PPA) Grant Program. The program provides Project Stream Grants within a five-county footprint which includes Erie, Crawford, Mercer, Venango and Warren Counties.
For 2017-18, $43,452 was awarded to qualifying Project Stream grantees, funding 28 regional projects representing a wide geographic region from Erie to Grove City, to Sharpsville, Franklin and Warren; $21,978 of that funding went directly to Erie County.
In Warren County, the Warren Concert Association received a grant in the amount of $1,357.
Youngsville closings
Youngsville Borough offices and services will be closed on Monday, Dec. 25, for the Christmas holiday. Monday’s garbage pickup that week will be Tuesday, and Tuesday’s garbage pickup that week will be Wednesday.
Extension office closing
The Penn State Extension Warren County office will be closed Friday, Dec. 15, and will reopen at 9 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18.
Class lunch
The Warren High School Class of 1957 will have a luncheon at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, at the Eagles Club.
WAEC concert
The Warren Area Elementary Center second-grade concert will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18.
Caregivers’ Support Group meeting
The December meeting of the Caregivers’ Support Group will be held at noon on Monday, Dec. 18, with a tureen luncheon at the Grace United Methodist Church, Wesley Parlor, 501 PA Ave. E., Warren. Beverages and table service will be provided. Those attending are asked to enter the building via the elevator entrance from the parking lot. Alzheimer workshops
The following dates have been set by the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater PA Chapter in Erie, for presentation of workshops. They will be conducted by Jill Curtis, Educational and Outreach Coordinator at 814-456-9200 (x5102). These workshops are free and open to the public.
Know the Ten Signs of Alzheimer’s Disease (Early Detection Matters) will be presented at the locations indicated below:
January 8, 11 a.m., Marienville Senior Center;
January 22, 11 a.m., Allegheny Community Center, Warren;
February 5, 11 a.m., Sheffield Senior Center;
February 21, 11 a.m., Endeavor Senior Center.
Healthy Living for Your Brain and Body will be presented at the following location:
February 26, 11 a.m., Tidioute Towers/Senior Center.
Church worship service
The Christmas Eve Candlelight Service for St. John’s Lutheran Church will be held at 7:30 p.m. with Pastor Susan Scofield.
Christmas program
The children and youth of St John’s Lutheran Church, 200 Pleasant Drive, will present Granny Mae’s Christmas Play on Sunday, Dec. 17, during the morning worship service. The service begins at 9:30 a.m. and the community is invited to join St John’s for the program. There will be a Christmas reception immediately following worship and all are invited to stay for holiday refreshments.
WASU donations

Kennedy McNeal, from Sheffield, was named to the Dean’s List for the fall term at South Hills School of Business and Technology in State College, Pa., A 2015 graduate of Sheffield Area Middle Senior High School, she is enrolled in her second year in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography area.
