90th birthday party: Join us in celebrating the 90th birthday of Jeannne Valone on Sunday, June 11, at an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Russell United Methodist Church, 17 N. Main St., Russell. Cards are encouraged but no gifts.

Monday Night Movies

Monday Night Movies at the Warren Public Library will continue on June 12. This event is free of charge and begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Slater Room on the 3rd floor of the library. Complimentary popcorn will be available. This week’s PG-13 rated 128 minute film stars Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Finn Wittrock, John Legend, and J.K. Simmons. Winner of 6 Academy Awards® including Best Director for writer/director Damien Chazelle, and winner of a record-breaking 7 Golden Globe® Awards, this film is more than the most acclaimed movie of the year — it’s a cinematic treasure for the ages that you’ll fall in love with again and again. Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling star as Mia and Sebastian, an actress and a jazz musician pursuing their Hollywood dreams — and finding each other — in a vibrant celebration of hope, dreams, and love. Tweens, teens Reading Program

The Warren Public Library is announcing the details of the summer reading event for teens and tweens. The program features opportunities for both the casual reader and the serious reader to enjoy a variety of reading options as well as a chance to win prizes.

Rules:

*all tweens and tweens between the ages of 10 and 19 may participate

*register at the library between June 12th and July 17th

*may read books, magazines, ebooks, listen to audiobooks, read to a child, etc.

*keep track of the books you read in your reading log

Prizes:

*daily prize drawings: stop in the library; deposit the name of the book you are reading; one person’s name will be randomly drawn to win a prize from the prize box

*grand prizes are a Kindle, $100 cash prize, $50 Amazon gift card (random drawing from all returned reading logs)

Warren Christian Women to meet

Warren Christian Women invites you to “Our Almost Summer” luncheon on Tuesday, June 13 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Allegheny Community Center, 42 Clark Street, in Warren. The event admission price is $9, which includes presentations by Jeanne Nelson, Erie Pa., on “A Journey to Victory,” as well as Zolly Freeley with paper jewelry demonstrations. Class to lunch

The Warren Area High School class of 1951 will meet for lunch at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 14 at Double D’s in Garland.

Class of 1967 reunion

The 50th reunion for Warren Area High School class of 1967 will be June 30 to July 4. Friday evening, June 30, will be a BYOB get-together at the Horton House, 7 p.m. Saturday morning, July 1, a golf scramble at Conewango Valley Country Club. Saturday evening, July 1, the class photo and dinner will be at Conewango Valley Country Club. Sunday morning, July 2, a memorial brunch will be at Jackson Valley Golf Club.

FARMERS MARKET NUTRITION PROGRAM

The Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) provides low income seniors with fresh, nutritious, unprepared, locally grown fruits, vegetables, and herbs from approved farmers’ in Pennsylvania.

FARMERS ACCEPTING THE CHECKS

Only farmers authorized by the State agency may accept and redeem SFMNP checks.

Individuals who exclusively sell produce grown by someone else or purchased from a wholesale distributor cannot be authorized to participate in the FMNP. An application can be found under the Forms link entitled Application for “Eligible Farmer” status.

HOW DO I KNOW WHERE TO USE MY CHECKS

Locally, according to the online resource for participating Farm Markets and Farm Stands, residents may purchase fresh Pennsylvania grown produce at the Warren Farmers Market, opening Saturday, June 17th, Lindell’s Hatch Patch in Sugar Grove and Warren, Wenzel Farms in Warren, Norland Farms in Columbus, Pleasant Valley Farm in Tionesta, and M & B Garden in Marienville.

RECIPIENT ELIGIBILITY

SFMNP – Seniors must be 60 or older by December 31st of the program year and meet the income eligibility guidelines. Income eligibility is basis on 185% of the federal poverty income guidelines. The guidelines are published each year by the United States Department of Agriculture. Income includes interest, social security, wages, etc.. Income guidelines for 2017 are: Single households = $22,311; Couples = $30,044.

VOUCHER SCHEDULE IN WARREN AND FOREST COUNTIES

Experience, Inc, the Warren Forest Area Agency on Aging, is providing the following Farmers Market Voucher Distribution Schedule to Warren/Forest County residents, age 60 and older who meet income guidelines. Vouchers are worth $20. Please bring a copy of a Power Of Attorney form with you if you are signing for a participant using a Proxy form. ID is required!!

June 13 – Canterbury Court from 9:00 to 10:00 (residents only)

June 15 – Allegheny Community Center from 9:00 to 11:30 (Last names starting G – M)

HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS FOR RECIPIENTS

Recipients are given a list of participating farmers and farmers’ markets when they receive their checks. These checks are redeemed for fresh fruits and vegetables grown in Pennsylvania. Each eligible recipient receives 4 – $5.00 Farmers Market Voucher checks to redeem at a qualified farmers’ markets or roadside stands. There are over 1,150 participating farmers at 828 farm stands and 202 farmers’ markets in Pennsylvania.

WHAT TO BUY

The checks can be redeemed for Pennsylvania fresh fruits and vegetables only. No processed food like jams, honey, nuts, cider or baked goods. Also citrus and other tropical fruits are not allowed.
