Spaghetti dinner

The Tidioute Presbyterian Church will hold its Third Annual Spaghetti and Meatball Supper on Friday, Sept. 27 from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.

Dinner includes spaghetti and meatballs, tossed salad, garlic bread, dessert and beverage for only $6 per person.

Take out orders will be available, call 484-313 after 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27.

Dinner proceeds benefit church pipe organ Restoration.

Pre-sale carnival

ride tickets

pre-sale ride tickets for the 2013 Pennsylvania State Championship Fishing Tournament are on sale now.

For $20, you get a business card that is redeemable at the Ticket Booth, which will give you 30 ride tickets.

Also, don’t forget to fill out the back of the card before you redeem it. Filling out the card will give you an entry in a raffle to win a bicycle.

Tickets can be purchased at Buccardo’s Restaurant, Tidioute Trading Post, and Polly’s ShurSave Market.

Carnival rides are being provided by Carnival Trowver of Gibsonton, Florida.

Pre sale tickets will be picked up Thursday, Sept. 26 by 6 p.m.

Craft Show

An Arts and Crafts Show is set for Saturday, Sept. 28, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Tidioute Firehall.

Marty Bennett is in charge of setting up Arts and Crafts Show, if you have any questions please contact her at 484-7372.

Several Vendors will be present to share their crafts with you.

This is a great opportunity to find some great Christmas gifts for family and friends.

Kids Derby

A Kids Derby will be held on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. for children ages 3 to 10 in Tidioute Creek at Benner Park

Each child who registers for this contest will be eligible for a chance on a bicycle.

This Derby is free of charge and the children must be accompanied by an adult.

The creek will be stocked with trout from Farnsworth Fish Hatchery provided by the Tidioute Lions Club in conjunction with the Pennsylvania State Championship Fishing Tournament Committee.

Tournament underway

The final preparations are in the works for the 54th Annual Pennsylvania State Championship Fishing Tournament that comes to life on Thursday, Sept. 26 with the carnival rides and concessions opening at 6 p.m

Last minute registrations for the fishing contest are still being accepted and if need be you can register on Saturday, Sept. 28.

Parade registrations are still coming in and a great parade is in order for the entire family. With a theme of “Salute to Volunteers” please remember to thank someone you know who is a dedicated volunteer.

John and Nathan Brown have been busy putting together a beautiful parade that is sure to delight the everyone. Parade starts at 1 p.m. sharp, Rain or Shine.

Ann Jones is in charge of the tournament kitchen that will open, serving up chicken fingers, fries, garbage fries, Southern BBQ Pork, Chicken.

Junior Champion Angler

A Junior Champion Angler for those ages 9 through 15, will be crowned on Saturday evening, Sept. 28 at 9 p.m.

The winner will receive a trophy and prizes. A $50 Bond donated by Jim and Betty Marshall. The trophies are donated by the George Jones Memorial Walleye Tournament committee and the Jones family.

Fireworks

Once again the skies will light up over Tidioute on Saturday night Sept. 28 at 9:45 p.m.

There will be plenty of fireworks to help celebrate the Fishing tournament thanks to Tidioute Trading Post and Servicemen’s Home Corporation, this year’s sponsors of the fireworks.

Champion Angler

Who will be the 2013 Champion Angler? Join the residents of Tidioute for a four-day weekend of fun and festivities and find out who the Champion Angler will be.

Several fishermen have already sent in their registration form for the 2013 Pennsylvania State Championship Fishing Tournament.

Fishing will begin at 12:01 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28 until 8 p.m. Sept. 28 Scales close at 8 p.m. Sharp.

Sunday finalist will fish with a referee starting at 5 a.m. and they must be in to the scales by 2 p.m. with no exceptions.

Crowning of the Champion Angler will be Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m.

All fish must be brought to the weigh in station alive in a water filled container. There will be a 4 ounce penalty for each dead fish. Qualifying will be in a single category only. Only one weigh in per day. All fish will be returned to the river following weigh in.

Grand Prize drawing

Pennsylvania State Championship Fishing Tournament committee members are selling chances on a 42 inch flat screen TV as the first place prize and $250 in cash for second prize.

Tickets are only $1 each, tickets are on sale now at Tidioute Trading Post, Linda Scott’s, Buccardo’s Restaurant. Winner need not be present, also on the tournament grounds from Thursday until Sunday at which time the drawing will take place.

Miss Tidioute winners

Saturday, Sept. 21 was the Miss Tidioute Pageant and the Teen Miss.

Contestants in the Miss Tidioute Pageant were Stephanie Burris, daughter of Rob and Mary Jane Burris; Desiree McChesney daughter of Vicki Wimer and Jon McChesney; Jessica Riel daughter of Chuck and Terrie Riel and Jordan Wolford daughter of James Wolford and Linda Lanager.

Winner and the new Miss Tidioute 2013 is Desiree McChesney. Desiree also won the Best Essay and Miss Congeniality. Jordan Wolford won the People’s Choice Award.

Contestants in the Teen Miss Pageant were Casey Byers daughter of Tom and Lisa Byers; Lindsey Crane daughter of Robert Crane and Stacy Crane; Kylee Harmon daughter of Angela Harmon and Allexa Morgan daughter of Chris and Monica Morgan.

Winner and the new Teen Miss Tidioute is Allexa Morgan. Allexa also won Best Essay, Miss Congeniality and People’s Choice.

Congratulations to our new queen court and to all the contestants.

Packages for troops

Once again it is time to send those well deserved boxes of items from home to our troops who are serving overseas.

Walleye tournament

The 17th Annual George Jones Memorial Walleye Tournament will be held on Saturday, Oct. 12.

This is a two man team with a six fish limit per team.

Boundaries are from Kinzua Dam all the way down to President. Hours are from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and you must be into the scales by 5 p.m.

Weigh- in will be at the Tidioute Boat Launch

All fish must be brought in to weigh-in in water filled containers as this is a “Catch and Release” tournament. No dead fish will be accepted at the weigh-in.

All fish brought to the weigh-in station become the property of the tournament and will be returned to he river after they are weighed.

Adult prom

There will be an Adult Prom on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 9 p.m. to midnight at the Tidioute Firehall for those age 18 and older.

Come to the “Dress For Your Decade”Adult Prom complete with music provided by the Brown Boyz.

There will be a Prom King and Queen crowned, refreshments, prom pictures will be taken.

Cost is $10 per person. This is a BYOB event.

All proceeds will benefit a People To People trip to Harvard University for Allyvia Morgan, daughter of Chris and Monica Morgan.

Watson Grange

Plans are underway for the Watson Grange float to be entered in the PSCFT parade in Tidioute as well as its Dime Pitch, according to chairpersons Kelly VanOrd and John Hollabaugh.

Deanna Hollabaugh, deaf and community service chairperson, suggested a benefit project which was approved and will take place at the Dime Pitch booth.

Master Bob Hollabaugh presided over the recent meeting where plans were also made for the fall road clean up on Oct. 13 at 1:30 p.m.

The Sept. 26 meeting has been canceled due to the fishing tournament festivities.

Upcoming events include: Auction at Pomona Grange on Warren County Fairgrounds Saturday, Sept. 21, at 1 p.m.; Fishing tournament in Tidioute Sept. 26 to Sept. 29; Chicken and Biscuits dinner at Forest Grange on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 4 p.m.

Watson Grange Birthday dinner will be Thursday, Oct.10 at 6:30 p.m. followed by the regular meeting.

Turkey Party at Watson Grange on Saturday, Nov. 9 with doors open at 6 p.m.

Miss Tidioute Pageant

The Miss Tidioute Pageant will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21.

Doors open at 6 p.m.

Miss Teen Pageant starts t 6:30 p.m.

Miss Tidioute starts immediately after the Miss Teen.

This will be held at the Tidioute Community Charter School in the gym.

Cost is free, donations will be welcomed.

There will be a 50/50 raffle at the door to help defray costs of the pageant.

Carnival Coming

Carnival Trowver of Gibsonton, Fla., will be arriving in Tidioute later this week with rides and concessions to set up to the upcoming 54th Annual Pennsylvania State Championship Fishing Tournament.

There will be several rides for the smaller children and plenty of games and food booths.

The carnival will open at 6 p.m on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 26-27 at 6 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday they will open at noon.

League of Women

Voters

The League of Women Voters of Warren County in partnership with PA Association of School Retirees and other volunteers are registering new voters at high schools throughout the county.

On Sept. 16, volunteers Phylis Wright, League president, and Norma Bankoske of PASR spoke about the importance of voting and voting rights during Ms. Wickert’s Economic Class at Tidioute Community Charter School. Students 18 years of age as of Nov. 5 could complete registration forms during class. This year only new voters will be required to show identification. Photo ID may be shown, but not required in this election.

Tidioute Borough voters will be voting for mayor, council members, tax collector, auditor, constable, election judge and election inspector. Surrounding townships will be voting for some or all of the same positions. Courthouse offices up for election are prothonotary, district attorney and coroner.

Many people vote when a presidential election happens every four years, but it is very important that voting takes place every year. Phylis and Norma emphasized voting for local officials who make many local government decisions on borough and township business (roads, tax usages, etc.) school board members, district attorney, and other courthouse offices that serve the public, etc. “If you don’t vote, changes will not be made,” said Wright. She encouraged students to studying what candidates stand for is how to make an informed change or continuation of their work.

The last day for new registrations and current address changes, etc. for the November election is Oct. 7. Last day to apply for a civilian absentee ballot is Oct. 29 and the last day for county boards of election to receive voted civilian absentee ballots is Nov. 1. Nov.5 is Election Day.

There is an urgent need for volunteers to help on the Holiday Lighting Committee.

Funnel Cakes

Tidioute First United Methodist Church will be selling funnel cakes and hot sausages once again this year at the 54th Annual PSCFT festivities.

Its trailer is located on tournament grounds next to the grand stand stage.

Craft Show

The Arts and Crafts Show will be held on Saturday, Sept. 27 from 9 a.m. till 3 p.m. in the social hall at Tidioute Firehall.

Come and enjoy the crafts and get some early Christmas shopping done as it is only three months away.

Kids Derby

Salute to Volunteers

This year the theme for the fishing tournament parade is “Salute to Volunteers” with registration from 9 to 11 a.m. with line-up at the same time. Once you are given your unit number you can proceed to that location and set up.

Floats having people on them will need their entire setup ready to be judged by noon. All floats will be lined up along McGuire Street next to the ballfield regardless of your unit number.

Judging of the floats will be at noon. All other units will be judged as they pass by the viewing area by professional All State Judges.

Parade starts at 1 p.m. sharp rain or shine.

Champion Angler

The 2013 Champion Angler will be crowned on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 3 p.m.

First-place angler will receive $1,000 and a trophy. Second-place angler will receive $250 and a trophy and third-place angler will receive $150 and a trophy.

George Jones Memorial

Walleye Tournament

Saturday, Oct.12 will be the 17th Annual George R. Jones Memorial Walleye Tournament.

This is a two-man team with a six-fish limit per team.

Boundaries include Kinzua Dam to President.

Boat operator must be at least 16 years old or older, under 18 must furnish parental consent. Life jackets must be worn while combustion engine is running, boat operator is responsible for boat’s wake. All safety equipment is expected to be in boat according to PFBC rules and regulations.

Live bait or lures may be used, each contestant may use more than one rod at a time, mandatory functional live well(s) capable of sustaining walleye. Walleye not alive will not be permitted at weigh-in.

Ties will be broken by weight of heaviest fish in tied teams live well; still tied money split 50/50.

Teams not at the weigh-in site, Tidioute Boat Launch, by 5 p.m. will be disqualified. All boats must check in at weigh-in site. All fish are property of the tournament and will be returned to the river.

Entry fee is $30 per boat which includes a lunker fee.

Crop Walk

Tidioute Methodist Church is making plans for the annual CROP Walk that will be held on Sunday, Oct. 13 at 2 p.m.

Adult Prom

An adult prom is planed for Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Tidioute Firehall from 9 p.m. to midnight.

This prom will benefit Allyvia Morgan’s People to People trip to Harvard University next summer.

So “Dress for Your Decade” and attend the Adult Prom that will be a BYOB event with music provided by the Brown Boyz. There will be refreshments, prom pictures, a prom court and a Prom King and Queen that those attending will vote for.

Cost is $10 per person.

McKown Tourney

Results

It was a great day on the Allegheny River for the 40 teams participating in the 17th Annual Glenn McKown Memorial Bass Tournament held in Tidioute on Saturday, September 7.

The rain held off long enough for 35 teams to weigh in 433.29 pounds of small mouth bass. There were25 limits of 6 fish. The total of 188 fish averaged in at 2.30 pounds each.

First place winners were veterans to the event were Bob Stephens and Randy Adams of Oil City, PA weighing in with 21.20 pounds.

Second place winner went to Darren Potts of East Hickory, PA and David Manross of Tidioute with a total weight of 20.88 pounds, they are also past first place winner.s

Third place was won by Ed Fike of Tidioute and John Ringel of Titusville with a total weight of 20.77 which included the lunker award of the day with a weight of 5.24 pounds.

There were 5 adult/youth teams and four couples teams. The top winners were Terry Miller and his daughter Terra Miller of Tionesta, who also finished in 9th place over all with 16.96 pounds and Dennis and Kathy Habovich of Carnegie, with a total weight of 10.66.

The free entry for next year’s event was won by Walt Stover of Corry and Eric Marsh of Conneaut Lake.

The 50/50 drawing was won by Dennis Habovick.

Tournament director, Deb Genter, was assisted by Reta Adams, Terri Fike, Melissa Potts, Wade Adams, Terry Guillard and Scot Genter.

This event is held every year on the first Saturday after Labor Day. Next year it will be on Saturday, September 6, 2014.

Shoe collection

There was such a great response to the old shoes collection that Julie has decided to extend the drop-off date to Sept. 30.

To date she has collected over 300 pairs of shoes.

Those of you who still have shoes to donate can still do so at Tidioute Flea- Tique.

Flu shots

Tidioute Senior Center will hold a Flu Shot Clinic on Sept. 30.

Those wishing to get the shot need to call the center at 484-3020 and sign up with Pat.

Pennsylvania State Championship Fishing Tournament Committee has received the pre-sale carnival ride tickets.

Glass collection

Watson Grange members are still collecting glass items for the Dime Pitch they are having in conjunction with the Pennsylvania State Championship Fishing Tournament set for Thursday, September 26 through Sunday, September 29.

Items can be delivered to their booth on tournament grounds on Thursday, Sept. 26, or you can contact John Hollabaugh.

Sports raffle

Tidioute Knights of Columbus members are currently selling tickets on a Henry Golden Boy Rifle 44 magnum that is made in the USA.

Tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5.

Drawing will be on Sunday, Sept. 29.

For tickets contact any member of the Knights of Columbus or ticket chairperson Tom Heenan. They will also have a table with ticket sales on tournament grounds fishing tournament weekend.

Kids Fishing Derby

Saturday, Sept. 28 will be the Kids Fishing Derby at Benner Park.

The creek will be stocked with trout furnished by Tidioute Lions Club prior to the Derby.

Fishing starts at 9 a.m. and ends at 11 a.m. for both girls and boys ages 3 to age 10.

This event is a community event sponsored by Tidioute Lions Club and Pennsylvania State Championship Fishing Tournament committee.

Junior Angler

Junior Championship Angler will be crowned on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 9 p.m.

Winner of this event will receive a $50 Bond awarded from Jim and Betty Marshall, a rather large trophy and prizes that are sponsored by the George Jones Memorial Walleye Tournament and the Jones Family.

Oldest fisher-person

There is a $100 award for the oldest woman who registers a fish in the PSCFT sponsored by a friend of the tournament and a $100 prize award for the oldest male fisherman who registers a fish sponsored by Tidioute Towers.

Champion angler

The champion angler will be determined by the total weight of all fish registered.

Saturday winners will receive cash and trophies and have an opportunity to fish on Sunday for a shot at the Champion Angler title.

First Place winner on Saturday will receive $25 and a trophy, Second Place will receive $15 and a trophy and Third Place will receive $ 10 and a trophy.

There will be a $10 prize and a trophy to the largest catfish registered.

Sunday qualifiers will fish with a referee and all referees will receive a gift of appreciation.

17 Days to tournament

The countdown has begun for the 54th Annual Pennsylvania State Championship Fishing Tournament that is set for Sept. 26 through Sunday, Sept. 29.

The entire weekend promises something for the entire family from a kids derby, craft show, parade, fireworks, carnival rides, concession stands, game booths, lots of food, and lots of fishing.

Bring the entire family and enjoy a fun filled four days in Tidioute, PA.

Borough Council

Tidioute borough council met on Monday evening at 7 p.m. at the borough office.

Police Chief Steve Vincent reported traveling 715 miles for the month and handling 18 incidents and charges.

Mayor Pam McLaughlin was unable to attend the meeting.

Borough manager Walt Snavley reported that maintenance crews have been working on bike trail.

SWCMA has a stream project on McGuire Run Road to complete.

There will be a meeting of the finance committee on Oct. 3 for budget planning.

Garbage Pick-Up

This week due to the Labor Day holiday, the trash pick-up will be on Friday, Sept. 6.

Remember the two bag limit, if you have more you can catch the workers and pay an extra fee for each additional bag.

Knights of Columbus

Tidioute Knights of Columbus will meet this Thursday, Sept. 5 at St. John Center at 7 p.m.

All members are asked to attend and will be presented with an update on the upcoming Sports Raffle.

This raffle is for a Henry Golden 44 mag. rifle, made in USA.

Tickets are $2 each or three for $5.

Drawing will be on Sunday, Sept. 29 at the closing ceremonies of the 54th Annual Pennsylvania State Championship Fishing Tournament.

Bass Tournament

The 17th Annual Glenn McKown Memorial Bass Tournament is set for Saturday, Sept. 7, chaired once again by Deb Genter.

This Catch and Release event starts at 7 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. with weigh in at 4 p.m. at Tidioute Boat Launch.

The public is invited to the weigh- in at 4 p.m.

Entry fee is $30 per boat with the categories being Two man, Couples and Adult/Youth (under the age of 16).

Permitted fishing area is Kinzua tailwaters to President Boat Launch, river only, no creeks.

Smallmouth bass caught on artificial baits only are to be brought to the scales in a water filled container.

Applications are available by calling Deb Genter at 484-7407 or stop by her beauty shop.

Grand Prize Tickets

Grand Prize Drawing for this year’s 54th Annual Pennsylvania State Championship Fishing Tournament is for a 42-inch flat screen TV as the first prize and second-place prize is for $250 in cash.

Tickets are $1 each and are on sale at Tidioute Trading Post, Linda Scott, Buccardo’s Restaurant and from members of the fishing tournament committee.

Winner need not be present to win.

T-shirt Sales

Tidioute Pennsylvania T-shirts are on sale in a variety of colors and sizes and are available at Tidioute Community Charter School and Buccardo’s Restaurant.

Cost is $15 each for small and medium, large and x-large are $17 each.

Shoe Collection

Concluding

A shoe collection has been on going for awhile in Tidioute at the Flea- Tique on Main Street.

These shoes will be taken by Tidioute resident, Julie Benner, to Erie United Methodist Alliance Church and All Gods Children Ministries/Ramps of Hope.

This shoe drive is to raise funds for their ministries serving those who are homeless or disabled, while also benefiting micro-enterprise ventures in developing nations and keeping old shoes out of the landfills.

Last day to donate shoes is Saturday, Sept. 7.

Reunion Held

A family and friends reunion was held at the home of Chuck and Mary Sampson recently.

There were 85 people in attendance from PA, Oh, NY, VA, W. VA, Colorado and Fla.

Hosting this event were Mary and Chuck Sampson and Sarah McLaughlin.

Flu Shots

Tidioute Senior Center will be holding a Flu Shot Clinic on Sept. 30 from 10 a.m. to noon.

You should call Pat at the senior center at 484-3020 to sign up. An accurate count is needed to assure they bring enough vaccine.

Those getting the shot will need their Medicare card number, address and phone number.

Tournament Rules

A brief explanation of the general rules for the 54th Annual Pennsylvania State Championship Fishing Tournament are as follows:

The general chairman and committee shall be the sole interpreters of the rules, their decisions are final.

All fish must be taken from the Allegheny Reservoir (PA Waters), Allegheny River (Kinzua Dam to Hunter Station) Tionesta Lake and Creek from Dam to Kellettville Bridge; Brokenstraw Creek and Conewango Creek (PA Waters) beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28 until 8 p.m., Sept. 28. Weigh in closes at 8 p.m sharp.

This is a catch and release tournament, all fish must be brought to the weight station in a water-filled container. No dry bags and no hand carried. There will be a 4 ounce penalty for each dead fish and only one weigh-in per day.

Pre-registration would be appreciated, registration can be done at weigh in station on Thursday, Sept. 26 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday, Sept.27 from 6 p.m to 9 p.m. on tournament grounds. All mail in registrations must be post marked by Sept.15.

A Pennsylvania Fishing License is required for all contestants 16 years of age or older. Those age 9 through age 15 are eligible for the Junior Champion Angler trophy and prizes. Junior Champion Angler will be crowned on Saturday night Sept. 28 at 9 p.m. and be presented with a $50 U.S. Savings Bond, trophy and other prizes.

Sunday’s contest will be determined by the total weight of the anglers catch on Saturday. Each Sunday Qualifier will fish with a referee and must be at the scales by 2 p.m. No exceptions. Crowning of the Champion Angler will be on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 3 p.m.

Saturday winners will receive for First Place: $25 cash and trophy for most total weight per category. Second Place will receive $15 and trophy, Third place will receive $10 and trophy.

Lunker awards will also be given in each category of Muskellunge, Northern Pike, Walleye, Small Mouth Bass, and Trout.

There will be a prize of $100 for the oldest woman who turns in a fish and the oldest male who turns in a fish.

Champion Angler on Sunday, Sept. 29 will receive $1,000 and a trophy, second place angler will receive $250 and a trophy and the third place angler will receive $150 and prizes.

Kids Derby

A Kids Derby for children ages 3 to age 10 will be held on Saturday, Sept. 28 at Benner Park from 9 to 11 a.m.

This is a community event sponsored by Pennsylvania State Championship Fishing Tournament Committee and the Tidioute Lions Club.

Tidioute Lions Club supplies the trout that will be stocked in the Tidioute Creek prior to the Kids Derby.

Arts and Craft Show

The Arts and Crafts Show will be at the Tidioute Firehall on Saturday, Sept.28 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Kitchen will be open with some great food items to choose from.

This craft show will provide some gifts for Christmas presents.

Tournament Parade

This year the theme of the Fishing Tournament Parade is “Salute to Volunteers”.

Line-up is at 10 a.m. starting at the Tidioute Firehall. Floats will be along the ballfield. Streets will be marked with unit numbers.

Judging of the floats is at 11 a. m.

Parade will start at 1 p.m. sharp, rain or rhine.

Chairpersons are John and Nathan Brown.

Need an idea for a float, think about the Firefighters, EMT’s, Paramedics, Salvation Army, Lions Clubs, Sports Boosters, just to name a few.

Carnival

All carnival rides and carnival concessions this year are from Carnival Trowver of Gibsonton, Fla.

There will other games on the tournament grounds sponsored by local organizations such as the Watson Grange and Tidioute Community Charter School.

Several different food booths will also be open on the grounds including the Tidioute First United Methodist Church Funnel Cake and Hot Sausage Booth, and the Tournament Kitchen will also be serving foods.

Bicycle Give-Away

There will be three Kids Bicycles given away again this year.

One will be drawn at the Kids Derby on Saturday, Sept. 28 from the registration forms and two on Sunday, Sept. 29 during the closing ceremonies.

These bicycles are being donated by Tidioute Presbyterian Women’s Association, Olive Temple Lodge No. 557 Free & Accepted Masons of Tionesta and Tidioute Knights of Columbus.
