Community shows support for Sheffield, Youngsville schools

More than 100 people attended Monday night's school board committee meetings. The board reconfigured its meeting space to allow more people into that room and provided a room for overflow seating nearby. Many of the 60 visitors in the meeting room wore clothing showing their colors – Sheffield and Youngsville garb were scattered throughout. A few people spoke, directly addressing the board's stated interest in reconfiguring its schools. Sugar Grove youth faces weapon charge

A Warren County School District student has been charged with having a weapon on school grounds on Tuesday. The 18-year-old student, of Sugar Grove, is charged with possession of a weapon on school property and prohibited offensive weapons, both misdemeanors. According to the affidavit of probable cause, a teacher at Warren County Career Center notified officials at Eisenhower High School that he suspected the student had made a knife in class and taken it with him when he returned to Eisenhower. Fire destroyed a Sugar Grove home early Monday. The homeowner at 11190 Jackson Run Road called in the fire before 6 a.m. and all of the occupants made it safely out of the house, according to Sugar Grove Volunteer Fire Department Second Assistant Chief Justin Darr. Eight departments – Sugar Grove, Lander, Wrightsville, Youngsville, Bear Lake, Starbrick volunteer fire departments in Warren County, and Busti and Lakewood fire departments from Chautauqua County, N.Y. – responded to the blaze. It was fight night for about 150 concerned students, parents and residents of both Youngsville and Sheffield who packed the Sheffield Volunteer Fire Department this weekend to save their respective school from closure. Warren McDonald’s owner cited for child labor violations

The operator of the McDonald’s in Warren and six others in Erie has been cited for violations of child labor laws. The violations — between June 21, 2020, and June 12, 2022 — involved 154 minors — ages 14 and 15 — at the seven stores, according to a Wednesday release from the U.S. Department of Labor. Of those 154 minors, 27 worked at the Warren McDonald’s. The situation was investigated by the department’s Wage and Hour Division.
