Warren resident, former corrections officer pleads guilty to assaulting fellow officers

HARRISBURG — Attorney General Dave Sunday announced Thursday that a former corrections officer at SCI Forest has pleaded guilty to assaulting two correctional officers in training during apparent hazing incidents. Garrett Smead, 29, of Warren, pleaded guilty Wednesday to two counts each of indecent assault, indecent exposure, unlawful restraints, and related offenses. A sentence date has not been set. The City of Warren plans to initiate legal action against Conewango Township in an effort to recover $13,500 in unpaid fees tied to emergency medical services provided over the past two years. FirstEnergy crews supported by outside personnel continue to restore power after winds exceeding 70 mph tore through its service area on Friday, March 13. Officials announced Friday that significant increases in water outflow from Kinzua Dam were planned for today due to high levels along the Allegheny River. The dam is currently releasing 12,700 cubic feet of water every second (CFS) into the river, officials said. Warren man charged with corruption of minors

A Warren man has been charged with corruption of minors and unlawful contact with a minor. Logan N. Beard, 35, of Warren, was charged by Warren County Detectives on Thursday with third-degree felony corruption of minors - defendant age 18 or above, third-degree felony unlawful contact with a minor - sexual offenses and misdemeanor indecent exposure. WAHS evacuated after gas leak; school reopened in afternoon

A gas leak in the lower portion of Warren Area High School led to an evacuation of the school building Thursday. Fifteen students and an adult were taken to the Warren General Hospital emergency room for further evaluation.
