Region expecting cold blast late Friday

An extreme cold watch has been issued by the National Weather Service for late Friday to Saturday morning.

Forecasters say dangerously cold wind chills, as low as 20 to 30 below zero are possible. The coldest wind chills are expected to be late Friday night through Saturday.

Dangerously cold wind chills as low as 25 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 15 minutes.

The watch is in effect for all of Northwest and Central Pennsylvania.

Residents are urged to stay indoors until conditions improve. If you must go outside, dress in layers. Several layers of clothes will keep you warmer than a single heavy coat. Cover exposed skin to reduce your risk of frostbite or hypothermia. Gloves, a scarf, and a hat will keep you from losing body heat.

Starting at $3.50/week.
