City Man Charged In Fatal Accident

A Warren man has been jailed on $150,000 bail after allegedly killing a pedestrian and fleeing the area.

Cyrus L. Sears, 22, of Warren was charged Monday with second-degree felony accidents involving death or personal injury, misdemeanor tampering with/fabricating physical evidence and accident involving damage attended vehicle/property as well as three traffic citations, including reckless driving, failure to stop and give information or render aid and failure to notify police department of an accident. Bail was set Tuesday at $150,000 by Magisterial District Judge Raymond Zydonik. A preliminary hearing will be held today, Jan. 21, in front of Judge Zydonik.

According to a news release from the Warren Police Department, officers responded to a reported motor vehicle accident at 5:25 p.m. Monday. Witnesses said a black truck hit a 57-year-old man who was on an electric mobility scooter. The truck fled the area. The man on the scooter was pronounced dead by the Warren County Coroner.

City police were able to find Sears at his residence.

“It was determined that Sears had removed the scooter from underneath his pickup truck and attempted to conceal it in the bed of the truck under a closed tonneau cover,” Warren police said in a news release.

Additional charges are possible as the investigation continues.

Warren police were assisted by the Warren Fire Department, Pennsylvania State Police, Conewango Township Police and the Warren County Coroner’s Office.
