State Police release details on horrific fatal Pittsfield crash
Pennsylvania State Police on Tuesday morning issued details regarding a head-on collision that occurred on State Route 27, Pittsfield Township, just before 5 p.m. Friday that left two people dead.
A vehicle traveling eastbound, driven by Ryan Nelson, 24, of Vandergrift, Pa., was negotiating a right curve at a high rate of speed when it crossed the centerline into the westbound lane, striking another vehicle head on, which was traveling westbound and being driven by Tyler L. Bean, 23, of Titusville.
The impact occurred in the westbound lane, causing both vehicles to come to final rest in the eastbound lane.
Nelson’s vehicle became fully engulfed in flames following the collision. The other vehicle was pulled by responders in an attempt to preserve life.
Both operators were pronounced dead at the scene. Lillian K. Bell of Polk, Pa., was air lifted to Erie UPMC Hamot Hospital for treatment. Both vehicles sustained extensive front-end damage with the fire-damaged one burnt beyond recognition.
Youngsville, Wrightsville, Spring Creek, and Garland Volunteer Fire Departments, PENNDOT, Warren County Coroners and Hillview Towing assisted at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
