A 17-year-old Warren teenager faces felony attempted homicide charges after allegedly admitting to trying to poison his mother’s husband.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, on Aug. 6, City of Warren police were called to 12 Mead St. for a report that a juvenile had put Old English furniture polish in her husband’s Mountain Dew bottles. Upon arrival, the caller alleged that her son, Caden Joshua Beckford, had poisoned the soda.
According to the affidavit, the victim had noticed a few days before that two of the soda bottles had been opened and that one appeared frozen. He reportedly drank one of the bottles and then became sick to his stomach and remained so at the time police arrived days later. ON the night police arrived, the victim reportedly opened the second Mountain Dew bottles and noticed what appeared to be a foreign liquid inside. According to the affidavit, Beckford allegedly admitted to his mother that he had put wood finish in the bottles.
At the time of the call, Beckford was not at the residence. He was located by police on Locust Street, according to the affidavit. When asked if he knew why police were speaking to him, Beckford allegedly responded “for the attempted homicide.”
