Pittsfield bridge closed by PennDOT due to ‘structural concerns’

A Warren County bridge is closed after state officials deemed it unsafe over “deck deterioration and structural concerns.”

The bridge is located over Kane Road, outside of Garland, and carries the road over the Brokenstraw Creek.

The closure was announced by PennDOT on Friday.

PennDOT said its decision was made stemming from “deck deterioration and structural concerns discovered during a recent inspection (and) in the interest of public safety.”

The bridge, built in 1958 and 92 feet long, is located between Old Garland Road and Route 27. It has a posted weight limit of 20 tons, or combination loads up to 30 tons. About 400 vehicles use the bridge each day.

PennDOT said the bridge has been rated in “poor” condition and, as a result, has been inspected every six months.

A detour is posted using Cole Hill Road, the Old Garland Road, Davey Hill Road, Route 27 and Kane Road.

“PennDOT is currently evaluating options to determine if the bridge will be removed, replaced or rehabilitated,” the agency said in a statement.

Starting at $3.50/week.
