Grand Valley home saved in Sunday fire

When public notice of a fire in Grand Valley went out Sunday afternoon, the location showed up as Grand Valley Fire Department — 12910 Route 27.

Firefighters spent more than three hours fighting a fire at that address. But, it wasn’t at their own building, which is 12864 Route 27.

The fire consumed a garage near the fire hall, according to Grand Valley Chief Brad Wright. “It was right next to the fire department… across the field,” Wright said. “When we first arrived, the garage was fully engulfed.”

The house, only about 20 to 25 feet away, was a serious concern.

There was a light breeze at the time of the fire, Wright said.

Firefighters from Grand Valley, Garland and Tidioute put water on both structures, keeping the flames down and helping to keep the fire from spreading.

“We saved the house,” Wright said.

Starting at $4.00/week.
