A Sugar Grove man is in Warren County Jail after allegedly leading police on a chase and almost striking an officer with his vehicle.

Kevin S. Davis, 57, was initially charged with aggravated assault; fleeing or attempting to elude officer; and four summary offenses.

Police filed additional charges of firearms not to be carried without a license; and prohibited offensive weapons.

Davis was scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Wednesday. He waived that hearing, moving the case to the court of common pleas.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, police attempted to stop a Jeep driven by Davis at 9:25 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, near Page Hollow Road in Sugar Grove Township.

“The suspect’s vehicle continued to gain speed in order to flee from the traffic stop,” according to the affidavit.

Police said the vehicle exceeded 75 miles per hour in a 45 zone and was weaving out of the lane of travel.

The vehicle pulled into a driveway on Page Hollow Road — eventually determined to be Davis’, according to the affidavit. As officers got out of their vehicle, “the suspect continued to flee through the back yard and failed to stop for police.”

Other police assisted with the incident. “The suspect drove towards officers outside their vehicle and almost struck” an officer in the performance of his duty, according to the affidavit.

Police said Davis drove back onto the road and, eventually, back to his residence, “where he was detained,” according to the affidavit.

Davis was arraigned before District Judge Daniel Miller and taken to Warren County jail after failing to post $50,000 bail.

Formal arraignment is scheduled for Thursday, March 9.
