DUNKIRK, N.Y. — Former Warren development director Vince DeJoy is Dunkirk's new planning and development director, after a 4-0 vote of the Common Council Tuesday.
DeJoy apparently faced a barrage of questions from councilors behind closed doors in a 45-minute executive session at the start of the meeting.
"We drilled you pretty hard," Councilman-at-large Paul VanDenVouver said to DeJoy before the vote approving him for the position. "I apologize for that, but we did our due diligence."
DeJoy's most recent post was planning director in Warren, Pennsylvania, and he also had a similar job in Jamestown. He is the city of Dunkirk's third planning and development director in a year. Rebecca Wurster left at the end of 2020 to take a job with Chautauqua County. Jill Meaux was hired to replace Wurster but lasted only a few months, alleging a hostile work environment when she resigned.
"I am so excited to really dig in and begin to work," DeJoy said in an interview after the meeting. He said he would start work immediately, on Wednesday.
