Plea entered in child sex assault case
A Pittsfield man has pleaded guilty to sexual assault of a child.
James R. Owen, 22, pleaded guilty to a count of aggravated indecent assault of a child less than 16 years old before Judge Gregory Hammond on Thursday.
The plea was initially entered last month but withdrawn just days later and reentered this week, according to online court records.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, a female victim reported Owen assaulting her “more times than she can remember” between 2015 and 2019, starting before she was 10 years old, at a Barton Run Road residence.
The victim told investigators that Owen forced her onto a bed and held her down during assaults. She reported that Owen threatened to hurt her family if she told anyone and slapped her if she did not listen.
In exchange for the plea, charges of rape forcible compulsion, aggravated indecent assault and two counts of indecent assault were not prosecuted.
