Plea entered in animal cruelty case
A Southwest Township woman has pleaded guilty to four counts of cruelty to animals.
Rae L. Connolly, 54, Titusville, entered the plea Thursday before Judge Gregory Hammond.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, Warren County Sheriff’s Office deputies contacted Pennsylvania State Police at about 1:37 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6, from a Tidioute Enterprise Road address after they saw a dead animal on the front porch.
Police found Connolly inside the residence and asked to talk to her about the “deceased animals that had already been discovered,” according to the affidavit. Those animals included the one on the porch, “a deceased domestic turkey that was located in the barn, and the feet of a deceased animal sticking out of the shed on the property.”
She denied when asked if troopers could search the property, according to the affidavit.
Officers served a search warrant the next day, according to the affidavit, and reported that “the remains of 14 deceased animals were found in various locations on the property.”
Police said in the affidavit that Connolly said she left her residence to live elsewhere for about six months and that the animals died during that time.
“Connolly advised that the animals were sick prior to their death, however, she didn’t seek veterinary care for the animals.”
In exchange for the plea to four misdemeanor counts, nine more misdemeanor cruelty to animals charges were not prosecuted as well as 13 aggravated cruelty to animals counts.
