Pittsfield man to register for life as sexual offender
A Pittsfield man will register as a sexual offender for the rest of his life in the wake of pleas entered Thursday.
James R. Owen, 22, pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated indecent assault at each of two dockets before Judge Gregory Hammond.
In exchange for the pleas, charges of rape forcible compulsion, aggravated indecent assault and two counts of indecent assault were not prosecuted.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, a female victim reported Owen assaulting her “more times than she can remember” between 2015 and 2019, starting before she was 10 years old, at a Barton Run Road residence.
The victim told investigators that Owen forced her onto a bed and held her down during assaults. She reported that Owen threatened to hurt her family if she told anyone and slapped her if she did not listen.
The second plea dates to assaults that occurred between 2013 and 2015 and involved a girl that was between 4 and 6 years old at the time.
The victim told police that she was playing hide and seek with a group of friends when Owen suggested they hide in a shed.
She described him touching her, according to the affidavit.
Asked by officials what caused the incident to stop, the victim said there was someone nearby, according to the affidavit. She said Owens told her not to tell anyone what he had done.
According to information from the Pennsylvania State Police, both charges bring lifetime registration requirements as a sexual offender under Megan’s Law.
