Inmate charged with felony escape

An inmate at the Warren County Jail is charged with escape following an alleged plan to walk away from work release and get a ride out of town.

Joseph R. Wees, 42, of Warren, was charged Monday with felony escape.

Wees was charged Oct. 17 with three felonies — theft by unlawful taking, deceptive business practice, and receiving stolen property – and was jailed after failing to post $10,000 bail.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, Warren County Sheriff’s Office deputies were notified that Wees had walked off of his work release position. He reportedly walked across the street from that job to a relative’s home, according to the affidavit.

“Wees was attempting to locate a way to leave town and not return to the Warren County Prison,” deputies said in the affidavit.

Deputies responded to the addressed Wees had reportedly gone to and made contact with a resident who repeatedly said Wees was not inside, according to the affidavit.

Once the resident cooperated with deputies, “after a few moments, Wees emerged from the residence and was immediately taken into custody,” according to the affidavit.

Wees was arraigned before District Judge Raymond Zydonik.

Bail on the new charge was set at $10,000.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7.

Starting at $3.50/week.
