Man who set woman’s hair on fire is jailed

A Sheffield man is in Warren County Jail after allegedly forcing himself upon a woman and lighting her hair on fire Tuesday night.

Brendon L.R. Kinney, 23, is charged with indecent assault — forcible compulsion, strangulation, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and harassment.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, Kinney and a woman were involved in a verbal disagreement that turned physical — with each pushing the other.

The alleged victim said they argued about sex. She said they pushed each other until Kinney pushed her face into the bed and removed her clothes.

According to the affidavit, Kinney “touched her genitalia” with his hand. The victim said she told Kinney she did not want to have sex and tried to get away.

She “rolled over on the bed and Kinney laid down next to her,” according to the affidavit. “Kinney then took a lighter, leaned over, and lit her hair on fire.”

Police said they found Kinney walking in Sheffield after 9 p.m. Police said he admitted to being in an altercation with the woman and “accidentally setting her hair on fire.” When he was searched, police said Kinney told them he may have a small amount of marijuana or his pipe, according to the affidavit. Police said a pipe and a pick, both with suspected THC wax residue, and a baggie containing THC wax were found in Kinney’s bag.

Kinney was taken to Warren County jail after failing to post $25,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 2:40 p.m. Wednesday, March 10.
