Area camp destroyed in morning fire

A Wednesday morning fire destroyed a camp on Campbell Hill Road in Triumph Township.

Five companies – Tidioute, Grand Valley, West Hickory, Garland, and Pleasant — responded to the fire.

According to Tidioute Volunteer Fire Department Chief Shawn Silvis, the owner of the camp was hunting nearby when he heard something from the direction of the camp and smelled smoked.

“By the time he got up there it was almost fully involved,” Silvis said.

He reported the fire at 8:26 a.m.

The location was a challenging one for the responding departments.

“It was pretty slippery getting up there,” Silvis said. “We had one truck get stuck.”

But there was no saving the structure anyway.

“It was a total loss,” he said.

The owner, who lives out of county, was the only person using the camp at the time. There were no injuries. An attempt to identify the owner using Warren County assessment office records was unsuccessful.

An official determination as to the cause has not been made. Unofficially, it appears to have been started as a chimney fire. Silvis said he spoke with a Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal.
