Man charged with assault after knife attack

A Warren man faces multiple aggravated assault charges after he allegedly attacked a man with a knife.

Kurtis A. Groves, 29, of Warren, is charged with four counts of aggravated assault — including two first-degree felonies, and two counts of recklessly endangering another person.

City of Warren Police said Groves was involved in a dispute involving three people at about 2:30 a.m. Thursday, at 215 Fourth Ave., Warren.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, “during an argument, Groves became enraged and pulled a large knife from his boot. He then rushed the victims.”

When police arrived, they spoke with a victim who had a “laceration that was actively bleeding on his arm,” according to the affidavit.

Officers spoke with groves, who waived his rights, according to the affidavit.

“Groves stated that, during an argument, he pulled a large, fixed-blade knife out of his boot” and rushed at the two alleged victims, according to the affidavit. They fell to the floor “where they were able to successfully take the knife from him.”

“During the… struggle, victim one received a laceration to his forearm and victim two had a small cut on his hand,” police said.

Personnel from the City of Warren Fire Department treated the two alleged victims and Groves, who had a cut on his finger, at the scene.

“Groves also stated that he was under the influence of alcohol and methamphetamine at the time,” according to the affidavit.

Groves was arraigned before District Judge Laura Bauer and taken to Warren County jail after failing to post $25,000 bail. He was subsequently released after posting bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30.
