Woman charged after kicking, spitting on medical personnel

A Warren woman has been charged with aggravated assault after allegedly kicking and spitting on medical personnel.

Linda J. Welch, 27, a resident of Warren State Hospital, faces charges including aggravated assault, simple assault, and harassment.

According to police, Welch became combative and assaulted two hospital personnel on April 2.

“During a fluid course of events in her patient room and the hallway outside, Welch kicked (an employee) and spit in his face,” according to the affidavit of probable cause. “Welch kicked and spit in the face of another employee as well.”

“The behavior, including physical contact and the transmission of bodily fluids called (the victim’s) continued safety into question,” police said in the affidavit.

Welch was arraigned before District Judge Laura Bauer on Thursday.

She was released on nonmonetary bail conditions.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25.
