Corry man facing new charges

A Corry man who was jailed in June on a charge of attempted homicide and later released when the charge was withdrawn is back in Warren County Court.

Tab D. Hunter Jr., 36, of Corry, is charged with strangulation, simple assault, criminal mischief, and harassment.

According to police, Hunter went to a Columbus Township residence on June 27 and began demanding that a gun “he believed was his be returned to him.”

A witness told police Hunter “became aggressive and grabbed her by the throat,” according to the affidavit of probable cause.

The alleged victim said “a male friend of hers kicked the defendant in the face/mouth causing him to stop choking her,” according to the affidavit. The alleged victim “then stated the defendant flattened the right front side tire of her vehicle and shot her vehicle approximately five times” before driving away.

Police said Hunter was interviewed the next day and admitted to grabbing the alleged victim and taking her to the ground, and to puncturing the tire and shooting the vehicle.

Police executed a search warrant for recordings on the home video surveillance system at the residence, according to the affidavit. “The video clearly shows the defendant grabbing the hair of the victim, pushing her into a lawn chair, continuing to push her to the ground, and then placing his hand on the throat of the victim when she is on her back on the ground.”

A witness originally told police Hunter fired a gun at him after he kicked Hunter in the face to get him to stop choking the woman. The original charges, including criminal attempt — criminal homicide, that were filed following that accusation were withdrawn after officials watched the video.

That witness, Daniel W. Heidler, 35, of Columbus, a convicted felon, was charged in July with a firearms violation after officials conducted further interviews and determined he was in possession of a .22 rifle. When police attempted to serve that arrest warrant on July 7, Heidler allegedly fled. He has subsequently been charged with operating a meth lab, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and several other counts.
