Defendants enter pleas in Warren County Court

Two defendants entered guilty pleas in Warren County court and were subsequently sentenced.

A woman arrested with nine grams of methamphetamine in Tidioute will spend time in state prison.

Sarah U. Bloom, 29, of Marblehead, Mass., entered a plea of guilty to charges of possession with intent to deliver; fleeing or eluding police; and six summary driving violations; on Thursday before Judge Gregory Hammond. Additional charges including possession of a controlled substance; possession of drug paraphernalia; DUI; and numerous summary driving charges were not prosecuted.

“Obviously, your record is driven by addiction issues,” Hammond said. “You led police on a five-mile pursuit while under the influence.”

“The Department of Corrections has instituted a new drug treatment program,” he said. “I think you’d be ideally suited.”

Bloom was sentenced to a total of 16 to 48 months in a state correctional institution — eligible for boot camp, recidivism risk reduction incentive, and drug treatment program — with credit for 81 days served to be served consecutively to a current sentence out of Crawford County; $1,085 in fines; $950 in fees; court costs; and drug and alcohol and mental health evaluations.

A Jamestown, N.Y., woman accused of using a credit card she and a co-defendant found in a lost wallet to make over $7,000 in purchases left court eligible for immediate parole.

Wanda E. Smith, 49, of Jamestown, N.Y., speaking through a qualified Spanish interpreter, said, “I feel bad for what I’ve done. I’m not a bad person. I’d like to be with my children.”

Smith entered a guilty plea to conspiracy — access device fraud. Charges of theft and seven counts of access device fraud were not prosecuted.

Hammond accepted the plea and sentenced Smith to 151 days to two years minus one day in Warren County jail with credit for 151 days served; two years consecutive probation; court costs; a $500 fine; $625 in fees; drug and alcohol and mental health evaluations; 50 hours of community service; and $7,433.14 in restitution — jointly responsible with a co-defendant.

Smith broke into tears when she heard she would be eligible for immediate parole and repeatedly thanked Hammond.
