St. Joseph’s win trophies, medals at Meadville invitational

MEADVILLE – The St. Joseph's Crusaders Run Club continued its cross country season Friday at the Seton Catholic School Ben Mourer Memorial Invitational.

The event on Sept. 25 brought together more than 150 young runners, with 14 representing St. Joseph's in the K-2, 3-4 and 5-6 divisions.

St. Joseph's athletes won two trophies and six medals, with Caroline McGraw and Avery Moski placing first and second in the 5-6 girls race.

According to those in attendance, McGraw and Moski battled side by side until the finish, making the race one of the most exciting of the Crusaders' season. Both runners received times of 15:45, with McGraw earning first place and Moski placing second.

Reagan Caldwell finished in fourth with a final time of 15:51. Ruth Sienkiewicz placed 10th in 17:04, and Lottie Curtis was 11th in 17:06.

The performance gave St. Joseph's three of the top four finishes and five of the top 11 in the 5-6 girls division.

The Crusaders also collected several medals in the younger divisions. In the K-2 girls race, Alice Gaskin earned a seventh-place finish in 9:15, while Evelyn Cummings placed tenth in 9:40. Rose Anderson finished 21st in 11:58.

Ben Curtis earned fifth place and a medal in the K-2 boys race with a time of 8:24, and Calvin Steber finished 20th in 13:42.

In the 3-4 girls division, Eloise Ignatius finished 13th in 9:17 and Mary Anderson was 20th in 10:20.

Evan Gaskin received a seventh-place finish in the 3-4 boys race with a time of 7:43. Gabe Curtis finished 16th in 8:46.
