Today, two members of the American Legion Riders, Joe Perrin and Josh Cassatt, will be attempting a 1,000 mile motorcycle in less than 24 hours as a fundraiser for the American Legion Riders Post 658.
The goal of this ride is to raise $5,000 to support the Riders and the work they do for veterans and the local community.
The ride will take them from the American Legion Post 658 in Youngsville south through West
Virginia, Virginia, to Mount Airy, N.C., where they will turn around and head back the same route. Money raised through this fundraiser will go directly to the American Legion Riders.
Perrin and Cassatt are personally covering all of their own expenses during the trip.
Local businesses and individuals have been invited to participate through either a flat donation or a pledged base on the number of miles completed, up to 1,000 miles. They will accept donations and pledges leading up to the ride.

– A 75th Birthday Party for members of the Class of 1969 will be held on Saturday, Oct. 3, from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Brokenstraw Winery. Youngsville Fire Dept. Craft Show: The annual Youngsville Fire Dept. craft show will be held on Saturday, Nov. 21, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Interested vendors should contact Linda at 814-563-7835 for table information.
- The Weekly Harvest Market at The Suites at the Rouse, 615 Rouse Ave., Youngsville continues Thursdays from 4 to 6:30 p.m. through Oct. 1. It's an outdoor market (inside if inclement weather). There is no cost for vendors to attend, but registration is required by emailing info@rouse.org for more information. Organizers are also looking for musicians to perform. LIBRARY NEWS
– The Youngsville Public Library's annual book sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Youngsville Public Library, 100 Broad St., Youngsville. All genres of books will be available, along with DVD's and puzzles.
– New Library Website: Check out the new library website at www.youngsvillepubliclibrary.org. Scroll all the way to the bottom and sign up for the library’s monthly newsletter. It will feature upcoming events, community happenings, and more.
– The August programs include the summer reading program and monthlong sidewalk/parking lot decorating.
– On Tuesdays, Career Link will be at the Youngsville Library from 10 a.m. to noon. Stop in for a one stop shop for career development. Career Link offers free personalized services including one on one support with resumes and applications. Career Link can also help access skills testing and other job seeker resources. This will be a weekly event on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to noon until further notice.
– As a reminder of the library services: Public wifi access 24/7; high speed internet; power library reference and computer applications; computer printing, copier, scanner and faxing available with a fee; Book Club meets the second Tuesday of the month from 3 to 4 p.m.; Preschool story time is the second Tuesday of the month from 10:30 to 11 a.m.; WIFI Wednesday is the third Wednesday of the month from 4 to 5 p.m. Stop by for free help with electronic devices including iPhone, Androids and tablets. No appointment is needed.
– Library hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, closed Fridays and open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays.
– To make giving easier, those who want to support the library can stop by the Youngsville branch of Northwest Savings Bank and donate directly to the library. Stop by during normal business hours and the staff will help with a donation.
MISCELLANEOUS NEWS
– Every Thursday is “Bar-Bingo” at the Youngsville American Legion (10 North Main St.)..Bingo starts at 6 p..m, and the kitchen opens at 5 p.m. Bar-Bingo is a formal term for the weekly fundraising event and is not intended to imply that bingo participants are required to sit at or near the bar area.
