Outdoor Club To Ride, Hike Knox Kane Trail Sunday
On Sunday, Sept. 27, members of the Allegheny Outdoor Club will ride bikes or hike on the Knox Kane bike trail from Chafee to Lamont, 16 miles total. The group will meet at Musante Street, Warren at 1:30 p.m. or at 2:15 p.m. at the intersection of Route 948 and Route 66, past Russell City, Pa. Tom Patterson will be the leader of the activity.
Bridge winners announced
Friday bridge winners at the Conewango Club on Sept. 4 were Jo Simonsen, first place, and Peggy Morgan, second place. On Sept. 18, winners were Peggy Morgan, first place, and Joyce Hill, second place.
Forest roads open for 2026-27 hunting seasons
The Allegheny National Forest has opened 144 forest roads to allow hunters access, with an additional nine forest roads opening later. Safety tips include remembering that side roads are closed to vehicle traffic; roads are narrow and may be rough; high clearance vehicles are recommended; maintenance or timber sale activity can occur; and that weather, unsafe conditions or resource closures may happen. Rules that apply while using forest roads include a requirement to have a Disabled Persons Permit issued by the Pennsylvania Game Commission to use roads reserved for disabled hunters; off-highway vehicle use is not allowed outside the designated ATV/OHM trail system at any time; and non-motorized use -- including hiking, biking and horseback riding -- is always allowed on gated roads. Blood drive is Sept. 30 at Warren State Hospital
A Community Blood Bank blood drive will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 30 at Warren State Hospital, on the bloodmobile. All blood types are needed. Donating blood is a safe and simple process, typically taking less than an hour from registration to recovery. Donors are encouraged to hydrate well before their appointment and bring a valid ID.
