Despite a steady downpour on Thursday, Aug. 20, members of the Warren Garden Club gathered at Wilds Sonshine Factory for a special tour celebrating one of the region's most recognizable blooms -- the sunflower. The garden club members braved the weather to learn more about the local agricultural significance of sunflowers and the role these bright, cheerful flowers have played in the area's farming heritage. During their visit, guests had the opportunity to explore the operation, learn about the growing and harvesting process, and discover more about the importance of sunflowers to local agriculture. Of course, no sunflower tour would be complete without taking a little sunshine home. Members left with freshly cut sunflowers to brighten their homes and gardens. The visit also served as a fitting kickoff to the upcoming WSF Sunflower Fest, taking place this weekend. The three-day celebration will feature live music, food trucks, vendors, and a car and bike show, offering something for everyone to enjoy while celebrating the sunflower and the local community. Even a little rain couldn't dampen the Warren Garden Club's enthusiasm--or their appreciation for a flower that continues to bring beauty, agriculture and community together.
