DAR recognizes four as Good Citizens
Members of General Joseph Warren Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, recently recognized students from the area in the DAR Good Citizens Program and Scholarship Contest. DAR Good Citizens include Isabelle McMonigal of Warren Area High School, Alexis Stec of Eisenhower Middle High School, Willa Heferle of East Forest School, and Macalie Hoffman of West Forest School.
“The DAR Good Citizens Program and Scholarship Contest are intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship,” said Chapter Regent Michelle Gray. The program is open to all senior class students enrolled in accredited public or private secondary schools in good standing with their state boards of education or a recognized accrediting organization such that a General Educational Development (GED) test is not required to receive a high school diploma. United States citizenship is not required. The student selected as the school’s DAR Good Citizen must have the qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism.
Chapter Chaplain and Recording Secretary, Robin Wagner, ensures that the contest is sponsored by the DAR annually and that the chapter donates to the City of Warren tree fund in honor of the selectees.
The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is one of the largest patriotic women’s service organizations in the world, with close to 190,000 members in approximately 3,000 chapters across the country and several foreign countries. DAR members promote historic preservation, education and patriotism via commemorative events, scholarships and educational initiatives, citizenship programs, service to veterans, meaningful community service and more.
