Youngsville Life: High School Alumni Scholarships awarded

The Youngsville High School Alumni Scholarship Board of Trustees is pleased to announce that ten Warren County School District Seniors residing in the former Youngsville High School attendance area have been selected to each receive a $2,000 scholarship to attend schools of higher education. Those students are:

1. Macenzie Jenkins, daughter of Jessie and Courtney Jenkins of Pittsfield, attending North Hills Beauty Academy of Pittsburgh.

2. Logan King, son of Josh and Rachel King of Youngsville, attending Northern PA Regional College CNB Wagner Enterprise.

3. Bowen Lindell, son of Brandon Lindell and Courtney Mosher of Youngsville,attending Penn State University.

4. Greyson Linkerhof, son of Jeff and Shannon Linkerhof of Columbus, attending UPMC Jameson School of Nursing.

5. Jayce Lang, son of Matthew and Renee Lang of Irvine, attending Mercyhurst University.

6. Rachael Lucks, daughter of Charles and Natalie Lucks of Pittsfield, attending Malone University.

7. David Manning Jr., son of David and Marjorie Manning of Tidioute, attending Robert Morris University.

8. Alexis McDonald, daughter of Noah and Jenifer McDonald of Spring Creek, attending Northern PA Regional College

9. Payten Mechling, daughter of Justin and Brandi Gurdak of Bear Lake, attending Jamestown Community College

10. Jayda Myers, daughter of Michael and Julie Eastman of Pittsfield, attending Jamestown Community College

Created in 1985 by the Youngsville High School Class of 1950, the Scholarship Fund has awarded 241 graduating Youngsville High School seniors more than $291,000. Funded entirely by memorial donations and proceeds from its yearly golf tournament, the Alumni Scholarship Fund also accepts donations that can be sent to the Youngsville High School Alumni Scholarship Fund, PO Box 73, Youngsville, PA 16371. .

SCHOLARSHIP FUND GOLF TOURNAMENT HELD

The 32nd annual Youngsville High School Alumni Scholarship Fund Golf Scramble took place May 9, 2026, at Jackson Valley Golf Club. The grand sponsor of the tournament was the Youngsville American Legion Post 658. Other special sponsors included the Leofsky Foundation, Randy and Brenda Abplanalp, the KCS Foundation, Dr. Wendy Doneyhue, Dahlstrom Roll Form and the Jackson Valley Golf Club. The Clark Foundation sponsored a youth team for the tournament. The Trustees would like to thank these special sponsors and all the golfers, patrons, volunteers and especially Tim Sandberg, Tournament Chairman, for their ongoing support.

The YHS Alumni Scholarship Fund wants the community to know that the proceeds from this tournament will go towards $2,000 scholarships for 10 students, residing in the former YHS attendance area and graduating from the Warren County School District in 2026. With help from the community, the YHS Alumni Scholarship Fund plans to continue offering scholarships every year to students residing in the YHS attendance area.

COMMUNITY NEWS

– St. Francis Episcopal Church, 343 East Main St., Youngsville, will host a Taize prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays. The quiet, contemplative gatherings offer an opportunity for prayer and reflection. For more information call Vicar Joe McGarry at 814-723-9360.

LIBRARY NEWS

– Something new to the Youngsville Library is online access to library webinars, events and upcoming speakers, all from the comforts of home. Go to libraryc.org/youngsvillelibrary for more details. Those interested can also access past event recordings.

– On Tuesdays, Career Link will be at the Youngsville Library from 10 a.m. to noon. Stop in for a one stop shop for career development. Career Link offers free personalized services including one on one support with resumes and applications. Career Link can also help access skills testing and other job seeker resources. This will be a weekly event on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to noon until further notice.

– May 30 program: On Saturday, May 30, stop by the library and make a stuffy. Choices are a giraffe, elephant, or dragon.

– The monthly book sale on the last Saturday, May 30, will feature kids and young adult books.

– As a reminder of the library services: Public wifi access 24/7; high speed internet; power library reference and computer applications; computer printing, copier, scanner and faxing available with a fee; Book Club meets the second Tuesday of the month from 3 to 4 p.m.; Preschool story time is the second Tuesday of the month from 10:30 to 11 a.m.; WIFI Wednesday is the third Wednesday of the month from 4 to 5 p.m. Stop by for free help with electronic devices including iPhone, Androids and tablets. No appointment is needed.

– Library hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, closed Fridays and open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays.

– To make giving easier, those who want to support the library can stop by the Youngsville branch of Northwest Savings Bank and donate directly to the library. Stop by during normal business hours and the staff will help with a donation.

MISCELLANEOUS NEWS

– Every Thursday is “Bar-Bingo” at the Youngsville American Legion (10 North Main St.)..Bingo starts at 6 p..m, and the kitchen opens at 5 p.m. Bar-Bingo is a formal term for the weekly fundraising event and is not intended to imply that bingo participants are required to sit at or near the bar area.
