Wilder Museum to open season with Fashion Flaunt
Submitted by Warren County Historical Society Warren County Historical Society volunteers Sue Borland and Paula Bogart preparing for the purse auction at the annual Fashion Flaunt Fundraiser coming up on May 27 at the Wilder Museum in Irvine.
As the American Revolution unfolded, so did fashion as it became a language of expression for personal freedom.
The Wilder Museum of Warren County History invites the public to celebrate “America the Beautiful” at this year’s annual Fashion Flaunt Fundraiser. The event takes place Wednesday, May 27, at 6 p.m. at the Wilder Museum located at 51 Erie Ave., Irvine.
View vintage fashions in red, white, and blue from the Warren County Historical Society’s textile collection ranging from a Victorian gown dating to the 1890s to a mid-century 1950s dress. There will also be a collection of detachable collars worn by ladies in the late 1800s and early 1900s, along with vintage quilts.
Light refreshments and beverages will be available while local models walk the runway honoring Women in History. Visit the Retro Station Salon exhibit to learn about vintage hair styling tools and techniques. Becky Hampson will offer her unique collection of original illustrations and art prints available for purchase.
The highlight of the evening is the annual purse auction conducted by professional auctioneer Scott Amundson. High bidders win the purse and the secret prizes inside them, including donated patriotic themed items and gift cards to area businesses.
Admission is by donation, and proceeds benefit the Wilder Museum. RSVP’s appreciated by calling (814) 723-1795 or email warrencountyhistory@aol.com.
The Fashion Flaunt Fundraiser marks the opening of the Wilder Museum’s season. This treasure trove of local history houses more than 4,000 artifacts and is the largest facility of its kind in the area. Visit the Wilder Museum of Warren County History during their summer hours from Memorial Day through Labor Day on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 1 to 5 p.m.
