Ride to Prevent Suicide is June 6
The Ride to Prevent Suicide is a community-driven movement using rides and events to raise awareness, support mental health, and help prevent suicide. The 7th Annual Ride to Fight Suicide will take place on Saturday, June 6 to benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. with kickstands up at 11 a.m. The return will be at 5 p.m. Riders pay $20, Passengers $15. Food, prizes and music to follow the run. All vehicles welcome. Start and stop at the Warren Eagles Club at 2101 Penna. Ave.East in Warren.
Community Blood Bank to host blood drive June 4 at WGH
The Community Blood Bank will host a blood drive from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday, June 4, at Warren General Hospital, 2 Crescent Park Ave. The bloodmobile will be parked near the Crescent Park Playground. “Summer is always a difficult time for the blood supply,” said Raven Edinger, NWPA Mobile Drive Coordinator “We rely heavily on our community to help ensure that lifesaving blood is available. Even one donation can make a critical difference for a patient in our local hospitals.” To donate, individuals must be at least 17 years old (or 16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in good health. Appointments can be scheduled by visiting www.fourhearts.org or by calling Edinger at 814-596-3395. Walk-ins are also welcome, but scheduling an appointment ensures a smoother process for donors. Blood donations take about 45 minutes.
Allegheny Outdoor Club To Hike Sunday
On Sunday, May 31, the Allegheny Outdoor Club will hike in Cook Forest on part of the Baker Trail. The destination is the old Henrys Run Sawmill Dam. It will be 3 miles total out and back. The trail is hilly, narrow, and has lots of rocks and roots. Parking at the trailhead is limited, so participants need to plan on ride sharing. The group will meet at Musante Street, Warren, at 1 p.m. Tom Patterson is the leader for this activity.
Bridge league winners announced
Monday evening at the YMCA in a non-sanctioned game, Rita Mancuso and Connie Michell shared first place with Diane Callahan and Laurie Curren. Bill Massa and Connie Lucia were first and second on Tuesday at the Woman’s Club. Thursday afternoon at the Woman’s Club found Susie Spangler in first and Connie Lucia in second. Results from Conewango bi-weekly games from May 15 were Rita Mancuso in first place and Susan Swab in second place.
Hospice receives April contributions
Hospice of Warren County received contributions in April. Contributions were made in memory of Barry Benson, Stacey Carter, Joyce Font, Marie Gustafson, Linda Hess, Mary Lopez, Pamela Main, Brenda Bonace Martin, Vicki Renwick, Shirley Schmatz and David A. Wiedmaier as well as a contribution in honor of Blanch Swaney. Donations support the comprehensive Hospice Program, including the John and Orpha Blair Hospice Residence, and The Schorman Center– A Place for Healing Grief and Loss.
Window box, beekeeping workshop is Saturday
The Allegheny Greenhouse senior citizen volunteers and Bee Courageous are hosting a window box and beekeeping workshop at the Allegheny Valley Veterans Center, 100 N. Main St., Clarendon, on Saturday, May 30, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Pre-registration is required. Visit the website Shop page at www.pennsoil.org register and pay online or stop by the Penn Soil office between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at 4000 Conewango Ave., Warren, to register and pay by cash or check. During the workshop, participants will select flowers and/or herb starter plants, learn to plant them in a wooden window box (upcycled from pallets) and take the window box and plants home at the end of the day. Lunch is included and will be provided by Bee Courageous at Garden Grub. The day will conclude with a presentation by the Warren County Beekeeping Association. There will also be 50′ garden hoses for sale, priced at $20 each, hanging baskets and ferns, plus vegetable and flower plants in 4 or 6 packs for purchase. Cash, check or card accepted.
