LIBRARY NEWS

The Youngsville Public Library was started in 1935 and the new building in its current location opened in 2002. Over the years local libraries have had to deal with many changes in funding at the state and local level, which has created budget shortfalls. The library also does not receive any federal funding.

In order to receive any state assistance, the library must first independently raise over $27,000 each year. Because of this, yearlong fundraising has been an integral part of the library’s budget. Some of the fundraising events the library holds include the Love Your Library Raffle, which will take place in February this year, the annual September book sale and the “Angel Tree” that happens in December.

Along with our normal “memorial donations or in honor of..” , starting this year, a “general donations form” is available at the library desk. On that form those interested can specify if they would like their donation to be used for something specific, like children’s books or large print books; utilities or office supplies; or the librarians choice.

To make giving even easier, you can now stop by the Youngsville branch of Northwest Savings Bank and donate directly to the library. Stop by during normal business hours and the staff will help with donations.

– Infinity Jobs will be holding a job fair at the Youngsville Library, 100 Broad St., on Wednesday, Jan. 28 from 10 a.m. to noon. Open positions include: injections molding, grinders, assemblers, MIG/TIG Welders, and more. Immediate openings, training available, weekly paycheck, competitive wages, free transportation to some jobs. For more information call Corry at 814-964-3174, Warren at 814-779-1053 or go to www.infinity.jobs.

– The library will hold several programs in January. On Jan. 24, the library will host a mug swap. Swap a mug for a new one with coffee and hot chocolate provided to test out the new mug.

Starting this month, on the last Saturday of the month, the library will set out a new genre of books to sell for a donation. This will start on Saturday, Jan. 31, with general fiction books.

On Saturday, Jan. 24 and Jan. 31, the library will have a stuffy building party featuring a stuffed raccoon or owl.
