Kinzua Youth Development Center to host open house
The Kinzua Wrestling Youth Development Center, home to the Kinzua Wrestling Club, will host an open house from 10 a.m. to 1 -.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at its 200 Struthers St., Warren, facility. There will be activity on the mats featuring a youth wrestling practice, a U.S. Marine Corps Marine fitness challenge, and a middle/high school wrestling practice. There will be presentations documenting the center’s evolution from a wrestling club to a youth development center that will include an overview of the center’s mission/vision as well as the the center’s strategic plan. Partners associated with the center will be on hand to discuss their work at the center. Those partners include the YMCA, WCCBI, Warren Leadership, Salvation Army, 4H & Master Gardeners, along with the various law enforcement agencies who have used the center for training. There will also be guided tours of the center and refreshments provided for the event.
Hospital to host blood
drive Nov. 7
Warren General Hospital, on the bloodmobile, will host a blood drive from noon to 5 p.m. Nov. 7. Call 814-596-3395 to schedule an appointment. Walk-ins will be taken as space allows.
Outdoor Club to hike Sunday
The Allegheny Outdoor Club will host a moderate shuttle hike of 4.5 miles in the Lander area. The group will meet no later than 1 p.m. at the Lander Fire Hall on Route 957. There is a stream crossing so those attending should wear appropriate footwear. Bring a plastic grocery bag to sit on, water, snacks and tick spray. No dogs are allowed because the hike will cross private property. Pat Spicer will be the leader.
Caregivers Support
Group to meet Nov. 7
The Caregivers Support Group will meet Thursday, November 7 at 6 pm at the Grace United Methodist Church, 501 Pennsylvania Ave. E., Warren. Those attending should enter the building via the Pennsylvania Avenue entrance and proceed to the Winger Room. Anyone interested in Alzheimer’s Disease or other dementia-related diseases and all caregivers are welcome. The lending library is open at each meeting with many books regarding the actual care of those with the disease. Much information furnished by the Alzheimer’s Association in the form of free handouts will be available as well. Time will be allowed for sharing concerns or questions. Results of the Walk to End Alzeimers’s Disease will be shared and plans for upcoming events will be outlined. For more information on the meeting or other questions call Linda at 814-726-1199.
