The World’s Premier Johnny Cash Tributist, Terry Lee Goffee, will present a Tribute to Country Music and Rock n’ Roll Hall-of-Famer Johnny Cash on Saturday at 8 p.m., at the Struthers Library Theatre, Warren. He has performed this tribute to superstar Cash for more than 16 years.
Goffee performed his tribute to the late Johnny Cash family, and these are some of the remarks they made about the tribute. John’s brother, Tommy Cash, said, “The show is great; my brother would be proud.” And his sister, Joanne Cash Yates, said, “It’s a wonderful show. I would recommend it to anyone. You don’t impersonate my brother. You pay tribute with honor.”
Cash hit the big time in 1955 when his second record release, “Cry, Cry, Cry,” peaked at No. 14 on Billboard’s Top 20. A long succession of chart singles followed. Cash’s fourth chart single, his career song, “I Walk the Line,” shot to Billboard’s No. 1 position and remained on the record charts for 43 weeks, ultimately selling more than 2 million copies.
In 1956, Cash realized a longtime dream when he was invited to perform on the Grand Ole Opry.
Throughout his life, Cash produced remarkable records and charted consistently. He also received many awards, including thirteen Grammys.
In 1980, at 48, Cash became the youngest living inductee into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Then, in 1995, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame bestowed its honor on him, making him one of a handful of country artists in both organizations.
