LIBRARY NEWS

(a) Preschool Story Time: Tuesday, June 11th from 10:30 am – 11:00 am is Preschool Story Time at the Youngsville Library. No registration … walk-in and be a part of the fun. You’ll listen to stories, sing songs, and more as Miss Diane entices preschoolers to interact and learn. Targeted ages are 3-6, but all are welcome. This monthly program is offered the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 10:30 am – 11:00 am.

(b) Book Club: Youngsville Library’s Book Club “Reading Between the Spines” meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 3:00 – 4:00 pm. Next meeting is June 11th. The book “The Last Days of Dogtown” by Anita Diamant will be discussed. Discussion book for July’s meeting will be: “The Covenant of Water” by Abraham Verghese. If you enjoy reading a variety of genres & discussing what you’ve read in a casual and friendly atmosphere then YPL’s monthly book club is for you! Interested in joining? (a) Summer Programming @ YPL: Youngsville Library’s Summer Programming will begin the week of Monday, June 17th and run through August 23rd. Programming is free and no pre-registration to participate (unless otherwise noted). All summer programming dates are not locked in quite yet – more details TBA end of June. Be sure to keep checking our website: YoungsvilleLibrary.org and/or Facebook (search for Youngsville-Public-Library) to stay in the loop about upcoming program details and dates. Here are a few programs to mark on your calendar:

(a) 9th Annual Free Summer Snack Program- Daily from June 17th through August 23rd. Just stop in daily during business hours and get a free “grab & go” snack. Snacks are located in the lobby area of the Library. Snacks are for ALL ages, kids and adults alike. Snacks are provided thanks to a partnership with CHOP (Child Hunger Outreach Project) and through private donations.

(b) Fiction & Fitness Program – Targeted ages 4-12 but all are welcome. Various Wednesdays from 10 am -11 am. Location is Yngs YMCA patio/pavilion (Island Park) rain or shine. Rain day meets under the Island Park pavilion. This is a partnership program between the Youngsville Library and Yngs YMCA. Enjoy themed stories, corresponding fitness activity, a healthy snack, & a take-home craft each program date. Program dates: June 19th – basketball theme; July 3rd – Cornhole theme; July 17th- shark theme; July 31st – softball theme; August 21st – soccer theme. Questions call YPLibrary 814-563-7670.

(c) STEMulating Stories – Targeted ages 5-12, but over 12 are welcome. Select Wednesdays from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm. Location – Youngsville Public Library. This program pairs great stories with STEM-inspired crafts/activities. Program dates: July 10th, July 17th, July 24th, & July 31st.

(d) WCFair Day Story Time: On Tuesday, August 6th at 11:00 am, Youngsville Library will be at the Warren County Fair’s Betsy-Ross-Gazebo (located next to the KeyBank Pavilion) for a special Story Hour. It’s a tradition for Youngsville Library to kick off the Fair’s daily “Children’s Story Hour.” YPLibrary friends and staff will present a fun, campy, and very interactive, family-friendly themed program that is sure to entertain both young and old alike! YPLibrary also provides audience members with free snacks and a goody-bag that includes themed give-away items, take-and-make craft, and more. If you are planning on attending the Warren County Fair on the 6th be sure to swing by the gazebo.

(e) Pre-school Story Time: Offered year-round the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 10:30 am – 11:00 am. Location: Youngsville Library. Target ages 3-6 yrs. Enjoy stories, music, songs, and more.

(f) Sensory Story Time: Offered year-round the 4th Tuesday of each month from 10:30 am – 11:00 am. Location: Youngsville Library. Targeting developmental ages 4 and up. This program pairs “traditional” story time activities with sensory-based/exploratory manipulatives, sign-language, and interactive opportunities with peers.

(c) Farmer’s Market Vouchers: Agents from Experience Inc. will be at the Youngsville Library on Monday, June 10th from 1:00 -3:00 pm to assist with the distribution of Senior Farmer’s Market Vouchers. No appointment is necessary. Seniors can qualify for the Farmer’s Market Vouchers if (a) they are age 60 or above by 12/31/2024, (b) 1-person income of $27, 861 or 2-person income of $37,814, (c) both husband and wife are entitled to $50 each as long as they are income eligible.

Vouchers can be spent 06/01/2024 through 11/30/2024. Fruits & veggies “born in” PA only. You have to get vouchers from your own county but can spend them anywhere in PA. Forms will be available at YPL on the day of voucher distribution. If you are not able to make the YPLibrary voucher distribution date on June 10th, there will be a distribution date at the Marienville Senior Center on Thursday, June 13th from 10 am – 1 pm and also at Experience, Inc. Area Agency on Aging in Warren on Wednesday, June 19th from 10 am – 1 pm. Questions call Experience Inc at 814-723-3763.

BOROUGH NEWS

(a) Cemetery needs volunteers: The Youngsville Cemetery Board is looking for volunteers to help with the maintenance of the Youngsville Cemetery. Needs include: mowing, weed-wacking, and general debris removal, etc. This is a great opportunity for individuals or organizations to meet community service requirements. If interested in donating a few hours of your time, please contact Randy McKinney at 814-563-9904.

MISCELLANEOUS NEWS

(a) Chicken BBQ: Saturday, June 15th from Noon to sold out, Chicken BBQ at Friendship Field, Pittsfield. Proceeds benefit Garland Volunteer Fire Department. All dinners are to go in a drive thru. Cost: $12.00 for a ½ chicken, macaroni salad, baked beans, & roll. Chicken only $8.00.

(b) Thursday Bingo: Weekly “Bar-Bingo” night is each Thursday at the Youngsville American Legion (10 N. Main St). Bingo starts at 6 pm, Kitchen opens at 5 pm. No smoking allowed at Youngsville American Legion from 5 pm – 9 pm on these weekly Bar-Bingo nights. Bar-bingo is a formal term for this weekly fundraising event and is not intended to imply that bingo participants are required to sit near or at the Legion bar area.

(c) Vacation Bible School: Vacation Bible School dates for the Pittsfield Otterbein Global Methodist Church (258 Dalrymple Street) will be Friday, June 14th – Sunday, June 16th titled “Outback Rock.” Friday, June 14th from 5:00 – 8:00 pm, Saturday, June 15th 9:30 am – 12:30 pm, and Sunday, June 16th program will be during 9 am worship.

(d) VBS – Save the Date: The YFMChurch Vacation Bible School will be July 8th – 11th. Registration is now open. Theme is SCUBA – diving into friendship with God. 5:00-8:30 pm at YFMChurch (meal served at 5 pm) Ages 5-12 years old. Must pre-register online.
