Gas prices continue to rise throughout region

The price of gas rose four cents in Warren and throughout the region this week.

The average price for a gallon of gas is now $3.75 in the region and $3.79 in Warren, among the highest in the region.

The national average also rose seven cents this week, according to the AAA East Central Gas Price Report.

“While domestic gas demand has been lackluster, rising oil prices helped push pump prices higher,” the report stated. “The Midwest may see a bit of a price reprieve, as the large BP Whiting refinery in Indiana is back up and running after being down since February 1.”

Today’s national average marks a 27 cent increase compared to a month ago.

“Lower demand would typically contribute to pushing pump prices lower or slowing increases,” the report said.

Increases are driven currently by increases in the price of oil, though the report details that price took a dip “after the US Federal Reserve announced it was leaving interest rates unchanged, but it expects three rate cuts by the end of 2024.”
