Audubon to host day camp Monday, Jan. 15

Audubon Community Nature Center’s January Camp on Monday, January 15, is a great time for kids ages 4–12 to explore the natural world that may not be so quiet and still as it appears.

The Audubon Community Nature Center will hold its winter day camp on Monday.

Winter is a time to go out and explore the natural world that appears to be quiet and still.

At Audubon Community Nature Center’s January Camp from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, children between the ages of 4 and 12 will find that actually there is a lot happening outdoors. As they explore, play, climb, run, and engage their senses, kids can learn all about the mammals and the birds and even the insects that are active in the winter. They go outside for as much of the day as possible, so they need to be dressed to be comfortable being out in the forecasted weather.

Children need to bring water, snacks, a lunch that does not need refrigeration, and extras of anything that might get wet. The cost for the day is $48 for ages 4-12 or $36 for Nature Center member children. Additional siblings receive a $5 discount. Enrollment is limited. Paid reservations are required by Monday.

Audubon Community Nature Center is located at 1600 Riverside Road, one-quarter mile east of Route 62 between Jamestown and Warren. Visit the nearly 600-acre nature preserve, check in on the live birds of prey, and hike the more than five miles of trails dawn until dusk daily for free.

The three-story Nature Center building houses interactive displays, a collection of live animals including the Hellbender exhibit, and the Blue Heron Gift Shop. Visitors are welcome Mondays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Sundays, 1 to 4:30 p.m. Nature Center members and SNAP/EBT cardholders have free building admission daily. Building admission is also free every Sunday for non-Nature Center members.
