Audubon to hold holiday camps Dec. 27-28

At Audubon Community Nature Center Holiday Camps on Wednesday, December 27 and Thursday, December 28 kids can enjoy the winter holiday playing outdoors and being active.

The Audubon Community Nature Center is offering two holiday camps where children can explore outdoors, play, climb, run, and engage their senses as they discover all that winter embodies.

The Wednesday, Dec. 27, camp is for ages 5 to 11. The Thursday, Dec. 28, camp is for ages 4 to 12. Both are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Children can enjoy the winter holiday playing outdoors and being active. Cold, wind, and ice change the landscape and bring new things to learn about, play with, and explore. Learning and play are the themes of the day.

Since they go outside for as much of the day as possible, children need to be dressed to be comfortable being out in the forecasted weather.

They also need to bring water, snacks, a lunch that does not require refrigeration, and extras of anything that might get wet.

The cost for the day is $48 or $36 for Nature Center member children. Additional siblings receive a $5 discount.

Enrollment is limited. Paid reservations are required by Monday, Dec. 25, for the Dec. 27 camp and Tuesday, Dec. 26, for the Dec. 28 camp. For more information and to register, call 716-569-2345 during business hours or go to AudubonCNC.org and click through “Programs and Events.”

The nature center building will be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Audubon Community Nature Center is located at 1600 Riverside Road, one-quarter mile east of Route 62 between Jamestown and Warren. Visit the nearly 600-acre nature preserve, check in on the live birds of prey, and hike the more than five miles of trails dawn until dusk daily for free.

The three-story Nature Center building houses interactive displays, a collection of live animals including the Hellbender exhibit, and the Blue Heron Gift Shop. Visitors are welcome Mondays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Sundays, 1 to 4:30 p.m. Nature Center members and SNAP/EBT cardholders have free building admission daily. Building admission is also free every Sunday for non-Nature Center members.
