LIBRARY

(a) Holiday hours: Youngsville Library will be open regular business hours of 11 am – 4 pm on Friday, November 10th (Veterans Day observed). In observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, the Youngsville Library will only be closed on Thursday, November 23rd and Friday, November 24th. Regular business hours will resume on Monday, November 27th.

(b) Library Angel Fundraiser: Now through Friday, December 22nd Youngsville Library’s 15th Annual “Library-Angel” fundraiser is occurring. A corresponding “Library-Angel” is placed on the Library-Angel tree for each donation made and specifies if the donation was in honor of or in memory of an individual. Library Angels are also mentioned on our website and listed in the TimesObserver. This is a very important fundraiser for the library and the Library Board and staff truly appreciate the community’s support.

To become a Library Angel just stop by the Youngsville Library during business hours or visit our library’s homepage at YoungsvilleLibrary.org and click on the Library Angel Tree link. From our website you can print and complete a downloadable form which you can either mail to the library or place in our secure drop–box (which is open 24/7). All donations received via the library drop-box and by mail will receive a phone call confirmation to let you know that your donation was received. You can also mail your Library Angel donation (without a form) to: Youngsville Public Library c/o Library Angel Program, 100 Broad Street, Youngsville, PA 16371. Please be sure to include the name you would like to be placed on the Angel (and if it is in memoriam or in honor of someone). Regular business hours are Mondays & Wednesdays 10 am – 6 pm, Tuesdays 10 am – 3 pm, and Fridays 11 am – 4 pm.

(c) Free Job search help: Wednesday, November 8th Noon – 1:00 pm there will be free one-on-one assistance and walk-in Q & A offered at the Youngsville Public Library to anyone who would like help searching for a job, resume writing, help finding free job skills opportunities, or anyone who would like help meeting workshop/training requirements for unemployment benefits.

(d) Budgeting & Taxes 101 workshop: Wednesday, November 8th from 2:00 – 3:00 pm Chris Hinchman, from PA CareerLink will be at the Youngsville Public Library to present the free workshop: “Budgeting & Taxes 101.” Learn the steps necessary to build your budget, basic tax knowledge, and how to leverage that tax knowledge to improve your budget strategy. (e) Free SkillUP PA class: Wednesday, November 8th from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm Chris Hinchman, from PA CareerLink, will be at the Youngsville Public Library to offer free assistance on how to access the “SkillUP PA” website and database. SkillUP PA is a PA sponsored resource that is free to every resident within Pennsylvania. This site offers free tools, training, resources, and support so that any Pennsylvanian resident who is thinking about a new career shift, would like to find a better living-wage job, and/or would like to increase their skill-set within their current job has access to a free database and free training options. There is even a section that links you to available jobs within PA. Walk-ins are welcome at this casual hour of Q & A, but pre-registration is appreciated. BOROUGH NEWS

(a) Odd/Even Parking: Reminder that Youngsville Borough’s ODD/EVEN Parking rule is in effect now through March 31, 2024. Odd/Even parking runs from 8 am t0 8 am. On Odd number days of the week, please park on the “Odd house-number” side of the road. On EVEN number days of the week, please park on the “Even house-number” side of the road. (b) Veterans Day Hours: Youngsville Borough Office & Services will be closed on Friday, November 10th in observance of Veterans Day.

(c) Thanksgiving Holidays hours: Youngsville Borough Office & services will be CLOSED at Noon on Wednesday, November 22nd and closed all day Thursday, November 23rd and all-day Friday, November 24th for the Thanksgiving Holiday. In addition, the public works personnel will be off for their floating holiday on Monday, November 27th. Monday’s garbage pickup will be Tuesday, November 28th and Tuesday’s garbage pickup will be on Wednesday, November 29th. The Boro office will be open on Monday, November 27th.

MISCELLANEOUS NEWS

(a) Garland Bingo: Bingo fundraiser at Garland Fire Hall on Monday, November 6th. Doors open at 4 pm, Bingo starts at 6:00 pm. For $35 all you can play on a regular card. Lucky Number pays $200, 50/50 Equipment Fund Bingo, Power Play, and more. Kitchen specials: Kielbasa Griller Sandwich, Onion Rings.

(b) Spaghetti Fundraiser: Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser on Tuesday, November 7th from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm at the Irvine Presbyterian Church (885 National Forge Road, Irvine 16329). Dinner includes salad and dessert. Delicious homemade sauce. Take out or eat in. Adults: $8.00 Children 12 and under $5.00.

(c) Red Kettle Volunteers needed: Volunteers are needed to man the Salvation Army red kettle at the Youngsville Tops Markets. Dates are for Fridays & Saturdays (only) starting Friday, November 24th through Saturday, December 23rd. A full shift is 10 am – 5 pm, but volunteers can sign-up for hourly increments on any given Friday or Saturday. If interested in volunteering for a shift, please call or text Stella Walton 814-779-3105. This is also a great way for organizations to fulfill community service requirements. This “Red Kettle” sign-up is for the Youngsville Area only, all monies collected in Youngsville will be used to assist within the Youngsville area.

(d) Yng Free Methodist events: The following events are happening at the Youngsville Free Methodist Church (179 Davis Street): (a) Free Community Meals: Weekly each Wednesday at 5 pm. No registration needed. All are welcome. Menu changes weekly, volunteers always appreciated. (b) For Teens: Two social opportunities for teens in 6th – 12th grade. The Lighthouse Youth Group meets Thursdays from 6:30 pm- 8:30 pm. All are welcome. Lighthouse Teens also meets on Sunday mornings during both worship services. Volunteers are always welcomed. If you have any questions regarding Lighthouse Teens please contact Jessie Green at jessie@ybree.org. (c) Food Ministry: Food distribution every Friday beginning at 10 am. We also have food distribution the 1st & 3rd Wednesday of each month, 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm. Availability on a first-come, first-served basis, quantities may be limited. (d) For Young Adults: This is a new social group for those ages 18-30 years, all are welcome. Meet, socialize, and have fun Sundays at 6 pm, in the YMFC lobby, unless otherwise specified. For more information, contact Mandy Kellogg 814-730-9411. (e) Sunday worship: Weekly services Sundays at 9 am or 11 am, Children’s Church & nursery available at both services.

(e) Giftshop Open House: ON Monday, November 6th from 8:00 am -3:00 pm, there will be an open house at the Window Box Gift Shop located at Warren General Hospital. There are many new and unique Thanksgiving and Christmas items available for all ages. At the open house there will be Christmas trees, Santas, ornaments, snowmen, books, gingerbread items, angels, penguins, lanterns, gnomes, signs, baby clothing and much more. During the open house on November 6th, 20% off Christmas décor. There will also be Wind & Willow dips and cheeseballs available for you to sample, enjoy, and buy on Nov. 6th. Great chance to get your Christmas shopping done early.

(f) Free outreach Luncheon: Wednesday, November 15th the Hessel Valley Lutheran Church invites all to join them for their free Monthly Outreach Luncheon. Serving starts at 11:30 am. Menu items- Turkey & Gravy over biscuit, stuffing, green bean casserole, and cranberry sauce. Variety of Desserts and Beverages.

(g) YVFD Turkey Party: Youngsville Volunteer Fire Department Turkey Party Saturday, November 25th. Doors open at 5 pm, Party starts at 6 pm. Prizes are Turkeys, cash, guns, hams, and more. $5.00 admission will cover all food and pop. Thank you for your support
