Through Friday, Dec. 22, the Youngsville Public Library’s 15th annual “Library-Angel” fundraiser is occurring.

A corresponding “Library-Angel” is placed on the Library-Angel tree for each donation made and specifies if the donation was in honor of or in memory of an individual. Library Angel donors also have the option to determine what their donation(s) will be used towards. For example you can donate towards Kids/Youth programming costs, security system monitoring costs, wish-list books, toner for the copiers and printers, public computer hardware and peripherals, etc. There is also a category called “Library’s choice” that gives the library permission to target the donation towards “higher need” areas. Donation categories/options are located on the Library Angel form can be found via the Library Angel website link through YoungsvilleLibrary.org. Library Angel donors are also mentioned on our website and listed in the Times Observer.

To become a Library Angel just stop by the Youngsville Library during business hours or visit the library’s homepage at YoungsvilleLibrary.org and click on the Library Angel Tree link. From the website print and complete a downloadable form that can be mailed to the library or placed in the library’s secure drop box. All donations received via the library drop-box and by mail will receive a phone call confirmation to let donors know that their donation was received. Those interested can also mail a Library Angel donation (without a form) to: Youngsville Public Library c/o Library Angel Program, 100 Broad St, Youngsville, PA 16371. Be sure to include the name to be placed on the Angel (and if it is in memoriam or in honor of someone). Regular business hours are Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

LIBRARY NEWS

Author book signing event: Wednesday,Dec. 6, from 4 to 6 p.m. Times Observer columnist and local author Marcy O’Brien will be at the Youngsville Public Library to promote her first novel “Rounding Third…” During the afternoon, O’Brien will be sharing some selected readings and then be available for book signings. Books will be available for purchase on site at the library for a special introductory price of $15 per book, plus tax. Cash and check only please. Light refreshments will be served. No registration is required; this is a casual interactive event. Those who want a book signed do not have to attend the selected readings, which will begin promptly at 4 p.m.

PA CareerLink help: Free one-on-one assistance with job searches, resume writing, and training resource ideas is available at the Youngsville Public Library on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. From noon to 1 p.m. there will be a special workshop, “Budgeting and Taxes 101.” Call Christopher Hinchman at 814-853-5141 if interested in attending the budgeting workshop or with questions.

Holiday hours: The Youngsville Library will be closed Thursday and Friday in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Regular business hours will resume on Monday from 10 a.m to 6 p.m.

BOROUGH NEWS

Thanksgiving Holidays hours: Youngsville Borough office and services will be closed at noon Wedneday, all day Thursday and all day Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday. In addition, the public works personnel will be off for their floating holiday on Monday, Nov. 27. Monday’s garbage pickup will be Tuesday, Nov. 28, and Tuesday’s garbage pickup will be on Wednesday, Nov. 29. The borough office will be open on Monday.

Leaf removal dates: The last day for the leaf removal schedule is Wednesday. For more information call the borough office at 814-563-4604.

Hometown Christmas: Youngsville’s Hometown Christmas is Saturday, Dec. 2, from 4 to 6 p.m. The parade begins at 4 p.m. There will be prizes for float entries, prizes for exterior home decorating, and a Gingerbread House contest. MISCELLANEOUS NEWS

Turkey Party: The Youngsville Volunteer Fire Department’s turkey party will be held Saturday. Doors open at 5 p.m. with the party starting at 6 p.m. Admission is $5 and include food and pop. Prizes are turkeys, cash, guns, hams and more.

Victorian Christmas Event: Friday, Dec. 1, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. the Warren County Historical Society, 201 Fourth Ave., is having a Victorian Christmas event. All are welcome to come and enjoy the Youngsville High School String Orchestra, John Bowler on his Parlor Guitar, popcorn stringing, refreshments, and even a visit with Santa Claus.
