DONATIONS FOR GIVE 10 TO

EDUCATION

Youngsville American Legion Post 658 members, along with members of the post’s auxiliary, Sons of the Legion and the post’s honor guard are making the school year a little better for Youngsville Elementary School students.

Auxiliary member Marilyn Johnson recently brought more than $120 worth of school supplies to the school, the first of many such donations to the school throughout the year. Although coordinated by the Youngsville American Legion Post 658 Auxiliary, donations were also provided by members of the Sons of the American Legion and American Legion honor guard.

Members of the public who would like to donate educational-needs items for the program can drop them off at the Youngsville American Legion. Any member of the public who attends the Youngsville American Legion’s weekly Thursday night bingo (and who bring an item from the Give 10 to Education list) will receive a free jackpot ticket for the last bingo game of the night. Only one free jackpot ticket will be issued per person per bingo night regardless of how many additional items are brought in. Educational needs items include: notebooks, folders, pencils, pens, erasers, highlighters, crayons, colored pencils, Kleenex, rulers, glue sticks, hand sanitizer, markers, scissors, three-ring binders, craft supplies, and pencil boxes.

LIBRARY NEWS

¯ Fall Book Sale: Today is the Youngsville Public Library’s annual one-day fall book sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Hot dog, chips, dessert, and drink for a $5 donation from 11 a.m. until sold out. Texas hot sauce for the dogs will also be available until sold out. In addition to DVDs, music CDs, Christian fiction and childrens’ books there will also be a big selection of large print and regular print fiction books to choose from. There will be craft items available for purchase too provided by the Friends of the Youngsville Library.

The annual fall book sale is one of the library’s major fundraisers.

In addition to the sale, the library is taking part in the Get Carded @ Your Library campaign. Any Warren County resident ages 5 and above who has the status of their current library card checked, registers as a new card owner, or upgrades their card from the old green-bordered library card to the latest library card/key card version will receive a free ticket chance to win a $50 Amazon gift card (four winners will be drawn). Those who aren’t sure if they still have a library card account or can’t find their library card can get one wth a new photo ID at the circulation desk.

The “Get Carded @ Your Library” campaign runs the entire month of September. For more information call the library at 814-563-7670.

¯ Library Story Time: Tuesday the library will host Friend of the Library Diane Danielson for her monthly story time from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Targeted ages are 3-5 years, but all are welcome. No registration is required to participate. There will be stories, songs, dancing and activities. Story time is held the second Tuesday of each month.

¯ PA CareerLink Workshops: Wednesday from noon to 3 p.m. Christopher Hinchman, PA CareerLink TEF, will be at the Youngsville Library to assist with job search information, free career training options and to present a computer literacy workshop. From noon to 1 p.m. there will be a free, walk-in one-on-one assistance to help with personal career needs that include resume writing and job search options. From 1 to 2 p.m. learn about the free training, classes, and webinar style workshop options that are available. From 2 to 3 p.m. there will be a free workshop titled “Job Fair preparation.” Learn computer basics, navigation tips and tricks, and much more. ¯ Free Outreach Luncheon: Wednesday, Sept. 20, the Hessel Valley Lutheran Church invites all members of the public for their free, monthly outreach luncheon. Serving starts at 11:30 a.m. September menu is Broccoli cheese, chili, and vegetable beef soup, ham salad, egg salad, and chicken salad sandwiches, and a variety of desserts and beverages.

¯ Scouts sign-up nights: Chief Cornplanter Council, B.S.A. Cub Scout and Boy Scout Sign-up Night is Sept. 13. New scouts will receive a free fishing pole. Youngsville Pack 30 Sign-up is at the Youngsville Free Methodist Church (179 Davis St.) from 5 to 7 p.m. Call Sandy Benedict at 814-563-3489 or 814-706-9792 with questions or if interested in scouts but unable to attend a sign-up night. HOME EVENTS

Youngsville High School alumni planning reunions for the “YHS Coming Home” weekend in October, call Kathie Irwin for information 814-489-3535. The following events are already scheduled for the October weekend:

¯ Saturday, Oct. 7, at 9 a.m. will be the alumni breakfast at Scottie’s (Old Pittsfield Inn), self-pay. All are welcome.

¯ Saturday, Oct. 7, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. the Alumni Dinner Buffet (catered by Catering Plus) will be held at the Youngsville Fire Hall. Doors open at 5 p.m. Details for costs to follow.

¯ Saturday, Oct. 7, from 8 to 11 p.m. the Alumni Dance will be held at the Youngsville Fire Hall featuring music by After Dark Performance with Matt Ekstrom; cost details to follow.

Dinner reservations are required and deadline is Sept. 23. Total cost for both the dinner and dance is $25 per person. Dinner-only cost is $15 per person (with reservation). Dance-only cost is $10 per person.
