SAFETY
Those visiting the Allegheny Community Center are asked to take caution. The City of Warren has placed crosswalk signs from the front parking lot to the ACC.
VOUCHERS
A few Farmers Market vouchers for $50 in fruits and vegetables remain available at the WCC and Experience, Inc. Local seniors who are struggling with the cost of food may be eligible to receive some fresh food options through this year’s Farmers Market voucher program. To be eligible for the vouchers, residents must be 60 years old by Dec. 31 and have an individual income of under $26,973 per year or a two-person income under $36,482 per year. Vouchers will be distributed in person and must be used at a Pennsylvania Farmers Market before Nov. 30. Call the ACC or Experience Inc. for more information.
CAKE DECORATING
A cake decorating event is set for Sept. 25 that will include both decorating and a fundraising auction aimed to boost funding for community programs. The event is designed to be multi-generational and those looking to sign up are asked to call the ACC.
RAISING GRANDCHILDREN
The Care Council, a group of like-minded nonprofit entities that provide many programs and services locally, has acquired a grant to fund positive and fun family interactions for grandparents raising their grandchildren. Local presenters designed to address these specific needs will be offered while the ACC will offer free activities that encourage both generations to work together through art. BINGOCIZE!
Like to play BINGO but mix it with a little exercise over the winter? Welcome to Bingocize. A group will be held every Tuesday and Thursday from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the ACC.
PAINTING CLASSES
The ACC is still running a regular 5 week program in acrylic painting. Class is every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to noon. There are seats available and the cost is $20.00 for the entire 5 week program. Call the ACC to reserve a spot.
A watercolor class is held every Monday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and just a few seats remain.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
All of the senior centers in the area need volunteers from social time, to teaching a class or answering the phone or working in the kitchen. Volunteers are also needed for the Vita Tax program.
FLU SHOTS
Flu shot clinics are set for the ACC on Sept. 20 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; Tidioute on Sept. 26 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and Endeavor on Sept. 26 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Shots can be scheduled at the respective centers. Dates for Marienville and Sheffield have not been scheduled yet.
OUT & ABOUT
The TAWC bus will be taking interested seniors to a night out for dinner at Lawson’s West End Take Out next month. Call the ACC to reserve a seat.
OPEN ENROLLMENT
Medicare Open Enrollment begins October 15th. Be proactive in saving money on your Medicare Prescription Plan. Meeting face-to-face with a person who is trained to find you the best plan is a PA-Medi Councilor. Call the Area Agency on Aging at (814) 723-3763 for more information.
CULTURAL COOKING CLASS
The ACC will be hosting cultural cooking classes this fall and winter. Younghui Waite is coming in to teach us all about how to cook some very good Korean food. If you are interested in signing up or if you want to come to the ACC and cook your cultural dishes to share call the ACC.
CARE TO KNIT
If you love to knit or crochet the ACC is the place to go this winter. The center will be taking donations of yarn. Our community minded Care to Knit group will be busy all winter knitting and crocheting blankets and shawls for our community neighbors and friends. If you are interested in helping with this project, call the ACC.
SENIOR EXPO
The Senior Expo is scheduled for Oct. 27 at the Youngsville Fire Hall from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Over 40 vendors will be there and lunch will be provided for free.
