Holiday weekend offers plenty to do

There’s plenty on offer for those looking for ways to spend their long, holiday weekend in the region.

Music in the Park is scheduled Friday evening at Soldiers & Sailors Park at 7 p.m. Jays, featuring “oldies” songs, will perform.

The Pennsylvania State Fishing Tournament End of Year Chicken Barbecue is scheduled Saturday at 90 Main St. in Tidioute from 11 a.m. until sold out.

A rodeo event, Saturday Night Lights, is scheduled at 7 p.m. at Hickory Creek Wilderness Ranch. General admission is free.

Saturday is Smokey Bear night at Chapman State Park. Participants are invited to join Smokey for a parade around the lower loop of the campground, from the amphitheater to pavilion #4, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Participation is allowed on foot or bicycle. A fire prevention program will follow.

The Pennsylvania Fishing Tournament Ham & Turkey Party is being held Sunday at the Tidioute Volunteer Fire Department. The event will feature raffles, door prizes and instant tickets. The kitchen will be open and refreshments will be available. All proceeds benefit the 2023 64th annual PA Fishing Tournament. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Games start at 7 p.m.

On Monday, a chicken barbecue and tractor pull will be held at the Bear Lake Fire Hall. Breakfast will be served starting at 8 a.m. Weigh-ins will be held at between 9:30 and 10 a.m. with pulls to follow. Barbecue meals will be ready at approximately 11 a.m. 50/50 tickets will be available.

The Spring Creek Volunteer Fire Department will also hold a chicken barbecue Monday beginning at 12 p.m. The event will be drive-thru only.
