Warren continues to lead region in highest gas price

Gas prices dipped in the region this week. But not in Warren.

The regional average fell two cents to $3.87 while Warren remains tied for the highest in the region at $3.999, according to AAA East Central’s Gas Price Report.

Nationally, the average rose a cent to $3.86 “despite lower demand and the price of oil falling several dollars per barrel,” the report states.

Weather and economic concerns, though, have kept prices up in spite of those factors.

According to the report, “the potential for hurricane development and forecasts of an expanding heat dome over Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas may cause refineries in these states to curb production because of the sizzling temperatures.”

Demand is also down this week but that has not brought prices down with it. “Although demand has fallen, fluctuating oil prices have kept pump prices elevated,” the report states. “Oil prices declined amid ongoing concern that if interest rates continue to increase, the economy could tip into a recession.”

Today’s national average is 28 cents higher than a month ago.

Warren is tied with Mercer for the highest price in the region while the lowest can be found at $3.60 in New Castle.
