A clap and cheer for end of year

Times Observer photo by Brian Ferry Pictured are Youngsville Elementary School fifth-graders (left) Marshall Harrington and Keagan Lehnen clapping hands with kindergartners during the clap-out ceremony on Friday.

The clap-out is a celebration of a group of graduates by younger students in their school.

On Friday, Youngsville Elementary School celebrated the tradition following a school-wide year-end assembly.

In addition to prizes — including grand prizes of a Brokenstraw Valley Swimming Pool Pass courtesy of Youngsville Borough and a Day Pass courtesy of Goat Fort – there was a fifth-grade vs. teachers kickball game.

With the entire fifth-grade class in the field (in the gymnasium due to air quality concerns and rain), there weren’t a lot of empty spaces. Still, the teachers found gaps in the defense and kicked a few home runs.

In addition to the sheer weight of numbers, the students had the advantages of speed and elusiveness.

And in this photo Youngsville Elementary School Special Education Teacher Joshua Stover is pictured celebrating a home run in the second inning of the fifth-grade vs. teachers kickball game Friday.

Following the game, students in grades kindergarten through four lined up outside their rooms to wish the fifth-graders well as they move on.
