Russell man convicted on drug charges at trial

A Russell man has been convicted of charges stemming from the sales of methamphetamine.

A jury returned a guilty verdict on all counts against Michael W. Brant, 46, in the wake of a Friday trial.

The charges — possession with intent to deliver, criminal use of a communications facility and three counts of possession of drug paraphernalia — stem from a March 2022 incident when Warren County Drug Task Force agents made entry to the house at 6 Brenda Lane, Russell, shortly after 8:45 p.m.

After making entry, agents took Brant into custody and conducted a search of the premises. Investigators had received reports of methamphetamine sales from the residence and said the search was part of an ongoing investigation.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, agents found an open safe in the garage.

In the safe were “multiple items of paraphernalia, including two digital scales with a white, crystallized substance, several cut baggies containing a similar residue, and glass smoking pipes.”

Chief Assistant District Attorney Cody Brown prosecuted the case on behalf of the Commonwealth.

These aren’t Brant’s only legal problems.

He faces similar drug charges as well as corrupt organizations and dealing in the proceeds of unlawful activities offenses from incidents that occurred in Nov. 2021.

Detectives charged Brant in connection with five alleged controlled buys.

“The controlled purchases,” detectives allege in the affidavit of probable cause, “had yielded a total of 34.39 grams of methamphetamine in exchange for $1,300 in pre-recorded Drug Task Force funds.”

This also does not mark Brant’s first drug dealing conviction. Online court records show that he was sentenced to state prison for a 2010 possession with intent to deliver charge.

Starting at $3.50/week.
