District seeks more host sites for summer food service

The Warren County School District is gearing up for summer.

The Summer Food Service Program is preparing to apply to the Pennsylvania Department of Education. SFSP reimburses healthy meals served at no cost to children and teens in low-income areas during the summer months when school is not in session, according to a release from WCSD Coordinator of Grant & Foundation Development Matt Jones.

There are currently three sites for the summer — Beaty-Warren Middle School, Crescent Park playground, and Lacy Park and playground.

“The district is very interested in having partners from communities outside the City of Warren host additional sites,” Jones said. “Agencies interested in hosting an SFSP must offer activities for school-age children at their location, arrange to pick up food from Beaty kitchen on the days they are in operation, provide adequate staffing to monitor the meal, attend mandatory training, and follow all other federal and state requirements.”

Anyone who knows of or represents an organization that might be a good match as an SFSP host is encouraged to contact Jones at (814) 723-6900.
